Screen timeout setting on Inspire 2

For the Inspire 2, please add an option in settings to increase the amount of time my screen stays lit. I don't care whether it's adjusted on the watch, in my phone app, or online; I just want a way to change that setting.

Can this issue be fixed ASAP. I cannot believe that you cannot adjust the screen display time on the inspire 2.

So I bought the Inspire 2 about a month ago and have been frustrated by the lack of time the screen stays on. It goes black as I’m workingout, which makes doing anything that requires being able to see your time/pace/heart rate difficult to do. I see other people have also come across this same issue and nothing has been done about it. I understand that having the screen on longer affects battery life, but we bought this watch to be able to use it. If the screen is only on for a few seconds at a time then it basically make the watch useless.

For my job as an emergency responder, I desperately need my display to remain lit on my inspire 2 for more than 3 seconds, preferably indefinitely. To do my job correctly I have to manually count respirations/minute, as well as pulses/minute, and the 3 second display timeout simply makes that near impossible and severely inaccurate at best. I have to wear a digital watch along with my inspire 2 while at work which is beyond disappointing, as I had made this investment as an upgrade and replacement for the watch I'm forced to continue wearing. Sadly, I may consider trading my inspire 2 in for a comparable product with the aforementioned function if this isnt planned on being implemented.

I want my display to be always on. It's a shame that I seem to have chosen the wrong model that lacks basic features.

Really? I bought this $100 bracelet to track my heart rate but the screen only stays on for 3 seconds — holding the buttons to keep the screen on opens some quick settings panel I never use. Staff says that it's fixed on the Inspire 2 but it's not? Wow. I'm returning this bracelet and buying from a different brand because this impossible to read a steady heart rate from.

Just bought the Inspire 2 after researching lots of pedometers and other Fitbit products. I really like it and it suits my needs well. HOWEVER, the ridiculously short timeout on the screen prompted me to look for an answer. I found an answer- for other models! Why have such a fast timeout- or at least why don't you have the feature to make it longer, as other models do? I see a lot of people feel the same. I understand that the less time the screen is on, the longer the battery life. But, what good is it if I can't even see my screen before it shuts back off again? I'm so frustrated and really hope you guys can add this functionality to the Inspire 2. Thank you.

This is ridiculous that this isn't a feature when it is a feature on Fitbit's other products. This is just lazy by the dev team. Get your act together.

Seriously please give the Inspire 2 more screen display time! 10 seconds would be good or at least give a couple of options! Thank you.

Please add the feature to increase screen time out. My dad is 80 and he needs the display time out to be longer.

My Fitbit Charge 5 has this feature and not sure whyt the Inspire 2 does not.

FIX THIS ALREADY!

I just replaced my Charge 2 with an Inspire 2 and for this and other reasons, I hate it, which I'll elaborate on elsewhere.

Thank you AsJaySeesFirstSteps for this information. Done.

Hope to see more of us on this subject. It's a real struggle for me to get the info on my Inspire2 before it disappears.

So as a Nursing Student I am required to have a watch that is able to count seconds so I can get a heart rate and respiratory rate and the problem is that as I'm trying to count heartbeats it turns off. I had been hoping I could actually change the amount of time it takes to shut off but for this version, you can't. As a college student, my funds are already low so I would really love if I could just be able to change the amount of time it takes to turn off. I hope this issue is resolved in the near future.

Fitbit has become a challenger to other major competitors, HOWEVER, the major flaw in the Inspire 2 screen time out will significantly effect the value and sales of Fitbit products. I will throw this Inspire 2 in the trash as it is useless and a waste of $120. I have already purchased the #1 Health & Fitness Smartwatch, Spade & Co Health Smartwatch 2 priced at $59.

Spade & Co. has excellent customer service that is responsive to consumer needs. Fitbit has has more than 2 years to fix this screen time out flaw and has chosen to ignore consumer needs. BUY Spade & Co to save $$$ and much better quality product, or chose an Apple Watch.

Thanks for the tip, I will look into getting one of spade & go watches. It obvious that fitbit are going to ignore all the complaints regarding the timeout on the inspire 2. I think its time to ditch this. Is there a particular model you have ordered.

I will add to the chorus: Please add a Screen Timeout option to the Settings menu with at least three of these values:

  • 5 Sec
  • 15 Sec
  • 30 Sec
  • 60 Sec
  • 120 Sec
  • 300 Sec
  • Disable (i.e., only the side buttons will turn off the display, once it is turned on with the side buttons or a wrist roll)

I underlined the optimal (to me) three values, in the event that all (or more) are not possible. If the nurses and EMTs posting here use a longer period to check pulse or respiration, please post what you would prefer in lieu of 30 Sec. [I have heard anecdotally that 15 seconds is the commonly used period, and then the count is multiplied by 4.]

I considered ways to adjust the existing Double Tap Setting, but its interaction with wrist-roll activation is a bit tangled, currently; and so much more coding would be required.

It is trivial, however, to change a hard-coded const integer declaration to a 4-bit-encoded array lookup [note that the const must be already at least 4-bit to store "5"]. Presuming that your menu structure is designed using an underlying schema or method, adding the new control to the Settings menu should also be trivial.

Alternately, provide a new application that the Fitbit mobile app can deliver which simply toggles the const declaration between the static 5 seconds and the maximum value that can be stored in the data type. So if it is an int (integer, which seems likely), that could be anywhere from 4.25 minutes (8-bit) to 1092.25 minutes / 18.2 hours (16-bit). If the const is a nibble/semioctet (4-bit)... well then, poor decisions were made to save 4 to 12 bits of memory. [For comparison, each letter in this post is using at least 16 bits and possibly up to 32 bits.]

Thank you for encouraging your development team to take these request seriously. One developer that is experienced with your code base should be able to make the Settings change in less than an hour (though, yes, developing an app to toggle from 5 to 'maximum' could be a more time-consuming challenge).

A option to increase the timeout seconds, plus an always on screen would be good. 3 seconds is a little annoying.

Hi @Plantopolis, thanks for taking the time to share this suggestion about increasing time out on Inspire 2 screen. I've moved it into a similar request. You can learn more about how Fitbit decides what suggestions get released in our FAQs.

Thank you again for your participation in the Feature Suggestions Forums.

@DaveFitbit, this suggestion was submitted over a year ago. I've owned maybe a dozen fitbits, including the Inspire2 which arrived yesterday. The screen's form factor, paired with the timeout makes the device almost completely unusable. Between that and the terrible charging solutions, my next activity tracker is unlikely to be a fitbit.

I agree, the Fitbit Inspire is useless in it current format. I am sure
James Park and Eric Friedman are horrified how Google destroyed their
invention! Google purchased Fitbit in 2019 with a questionable acquisition
and now Google has destroyed the product by not listening to consumer
feedback. Consumers should be very aware of all the Fitbit flaws and not
waste their money. Buy Apple or Amazfit!!

I will add my voice to the chorus pleading for longer options on screen timeout for the Inspire 2....not that the chorus pleading seems to be having any impact. Don't you field test your products? I'm surprised that anyone who has actually used the Inspire 2 under real life conditions would think 3 seconds is sufficient screen-display time.

I've come to believe they are sticking to that so they can maintain the
battery life marketing of this product. Battery will last a long time if it
barely turns on. I do like the battery life.

Please vote for this option by clicking the Thumbs Up icon at top of original post. 3 second screen timeout is too short. I am willing to trade battery life for a longer screen timeout. Please patch.

Hello... another user here in September of 2022 wondering what the hell is wrong with the folks at fitbit for not correcting this yet. Maybe I just need to by a monitor that will work- It won't be a fitbit kids!

I don't want to sound overly dramatic, but I've never come across a company that cares so little about customer experience than Fitbit does.

This exact issue has been discussed and requested in a separate forum since 2020 (https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Inspire-2/Inspire-2-screen-timeout/td-p/4614386).

Obviously this particular issue is not my only concern about Fitbit's customer service, but if a feature that could be so easily added with a software update and has been repeatedly requested since 2020 is treated with such disregard and apathy by Fitbit - this says everything about the value that the company places on customer experience and feedback.

I bought my last Fitbit product today, will be getting rid of it, and will be warning potential buyers against Fitbit from here onwards.
