Smart Alarms that Wake You More Naturally (eg. in Light Sleep Stage)

I just got my Fitbit flex and I think it's fantastic.  If it monitors your sleep though it will have a good idea of when you're in deep (REM) sleep and when you're in lighter sleep.  You cycle between these two during the night on a pretty reliable pattern, and they're easy to tell apart as you don't move around while you're in REM sleep.  At least not as I understand things.

Could an update for the Fitbit modify the alarm feature please to wake you up as close as possible to your chosen time, but NOT during REM sleep?

This will allow you to wake more naturally, feeling refreshed, rather than how unpleasant it is when your alarm goes off in REM sleep.

Thanks, please all vote for this :smileyhappy:

adding my input on this one as well:

i have been an UP2 user for the past few years and this was my favorite feature (really only reason i use a tracker).  jawbone looks to be going under and support there is non-existent so i jumped on the fitbit train.

i love my flex 2, but with the addition of a smart sleep alarm it would be perfect.

please listen to the community on this request!

The lack of this feature is why I have a Fitbit Zip and a Microsoft Band.  I will be getting a Jawbone UP to replace the Band when it dies since MS isn't making their band anymore, and adding in an Apple Watch for the smartwatch features, which is just silly.

Get it together!  This is a fairly trivial feature, and it would make me fully commit to the FitBit ecosystem.  As it is, I'm all over the place.

Phone alarm connection at your lightest sleep near your desired wake up time would be nice, but even just the alarm on the HR band would be great, in my opinion. Both would be phenomenal!

This is exactly what I've been looking for as well.

What's the latest on this? Recently bought a Fitbit Alta HR expecting this to be a feature, but will return it and go back to my Jawbone if it's not. Really changes the quality of my mornings.

Please, it would be great to have a smart alarm on the next product. It can really help to have a great day and to be in shape !
Just an alarm that wake you at the best moment (between two times predefined).
Thanks!

@Justin: I can see this got flagged as "Under Consideration" 3 years ago. Any chance for an update?

As many others, I also somehow expected this feature in Alta HR.

I don't hold out much hope here. I'm not sure why they ignore this thread. Crickets from the team.

Actually, with "Always Connected" + "All-day Sync" + some "API magic", it could be possible to create 3rd party application for that:

But obviously, that would be far less elegant, more battery draining, and possibly less reliable, than if it was implemented directly in the device...

Really want this feature please, sleep tracking was why I was interested in the fitbit in the first place, and this would save money on competing products.

Got an Alta HR today for monitoring my heart rate. I had never used a Fitbit before because of the poor function in sleep tracking. But since they've been improving on this a lot, I had thought this new band would have a smart alarm, but disappointedly it doesn't.

This suggestion is the hottest and came out about three years ago. I don't know why they keep ignoring the need.

Considering returning it now...:((

My second Fitbit Charge HR is already falling apart, and I am absolutely buying something else with a smart alarm next time. I am not waiting around for this.

Yes please add this feature. I need to wake up more refreshed!

Alarm that wakes you up within your selected time range, but at the best time in your sleep cycle. (During light sleep??)

see: the sleep cycle app.

there is an app called "sleep cycle alarm clock" where it monitors our sleep somehow via the phone's mic and wakes us up at a given range of time we input so it wakes us up at a light stage of our sleep. however, the app can't connect with the fitbit, and the app requires a monthly subscription. it would be awesome if this feature is available in the next firmware or app update. I wouldn't mind paying monthly either.

Fitbit devices with sleep tracking should include a smart alarm in Which the alarm will not go off when in deep sleep.

The alarm may go off earlier than the alarm time in order to ensure deep sleep is not disrupted.

Could Fitbit please give us an update on this? I will not buy new products from them and will keep using my Pebble 2 for the sleep tracking and smart alarm feature!

That's the reason I will buy a new Fitbit: Smart Alarm. Please implement this feature!

Would love to see this. Makes total sense to be woken up a little earlier than your set time, if it means you'll be awoken from a light sleep - rather than falling into R.E.M and feeling groggy are a disrupted cycle. Please make this happen Fitbit team! 😊

Would love to see this feature developed! By the way REM - rapid eye movement is the lightest phase of all. And alarm clock should normally wake you in this period.

Just got Alta HR and was surprised to find out that it doesn't have smart alarm. Found this thread via google and can't believe that fitbit has been sitting on this since 2014. Do you guys not listen to your customers?

The fitbit should have smart alarms that wake you when you're coming out of REM. How is it so far behind the jawbone?

As many other users here I just can't understand why Fitbit has not yet launched a smart alarm feature. This is a huge let down and I'm considering switching to another brand to get that. What's the point of monitoring so many things is you can't figure out sleep cycles and adjust wake-up alarm accordingly (within a given time slot of course).
