I find it very irritating that I cannot record my cycling GPS track in the iOS app. So much in fact that I just go ahead and misuse the application and record my tracks as runs instead. Please add this feature on my iPhone together with my Charge HR.
Please add a feature to log and track outdoor cycling using your phone's GPS feature to track route and distance, and if possible, speed (at the moment only walk, run and hike are available). This feature would mean that anyone could use GPS and get accurate distance and speed readings on any fitbit device. It is a massive oversight that this feature isn't already included, and is the only major problem I have with my fitbit.
The bicycle is a popular and healthy means of transport in cities, especially in Europe.
I think you should turn MobileRun on multisports GPS tracker like Endomondo. MobileTrack is great, but users need more precise data especially the use of devices such as flex or flex 2.
But if such interference in the Fitbit app is too large - you should add cycling/bicycle transport as a separate section in MobileRun like walking, jogging and hiking to record the exact route, distance, time and speed during the bicycle workout.
Good luck. This thread has been going on for more than 2 years and the clowns at Fitbit haven't lifted a finger to accommodate their customers. Do what I did and dump Fitbit and go with just about any other product.
Hello Fitbit powers that be!! I have a request to improve the Flex 2 device and app for your many users who cycle (including me). To set up the gps tracker with function to choose cycle in addition to the options of Walk, Run or Hike. Essentially, tracking the distance travelled by gps, the duration of the exercise and therefore calculating the pace, it would be possible to estimate the calories burnt for that period of exercise logged. I would be interested to hear your response as it seems to me like a fairly easy update for the technical gurus to implement and make the many customers even happier with their flex 2 product. Working to our advantage, they are both already set up with gps, the ability to calculate distance travelled, pace and duration.
If this could be implemented as a new feature for flex 2, there is also another avenue for adventures and challengers where people could use it to set up activities such as mountain bike riding and other group bike outings.
I think its great that this has been implemented for some of the higher models (ie. Surge) where more features are included for the cost.
I have purchased my flex 2 only 5 days ago and LOVING it! This is the only feature I would love to see developed for this level of product, as it appears to have all the key elements already functioning in order to set it up, and so many customers are interested in bike feature but not necessarily funded to the level of the other products.
My personal choice for Flex 2 was soley based on it being the only swimproof product by fitbit. The fact that i dont have to worry about instantaneous decisions in my day that might otherwise see me destroy a valuable piece of equipment. It is making me very happy and definitly assisting me towards my activity goals where I had previously been really struggling to start let alone maintain.
Thank you for producing such a wonderful product. I do hope to see the new gps cycle feature added soon!!! Fingers crossed
Plus one for me. Surely just an extra option in the drop down list and sync the results as cycling back through the app. Hey give me a job there and I could code it up for you 🙂
WHY don't we have cycling available in the Tack Exercise module????? It's stupid that there's only walk, run, and hike!! It's beyond ridiculous that I have to have both my Charge and my Garmin on my wrist to GPS my bike, snowshoe, and ski routes. Grrrrrrr!!!!!
Yes I've noticed that also @spc86 when it comes to new features and new products, fitbit is pretty hush-hush. Usually the announcement comes on e day of release.
Personally I think this is a feature that should not have the need to be asked for. Yes I know fitbit makes step counters, but they do track way more step based activities tying everything together through calories burnt. Plus the new models are able to track cycling right from the wrist.
The easiest way to answer @volklgirl is that nobody added it.
Clearly not a bike riding. As cycling is increasing (more so than running or walking) as a fitness trend with many taking this path it is a significant. Not sure you understand this as a quick add on and how limited it is at present. This addition is needed.
I gave up waiting and took my FitBit Charge HR back. Shame. It was a product with great potential which, through their deafening silence, they are choosing not to exploit. I now use MapMyRun instead, it does well. BTW, it did also take:
This would be a great option as i use mapmyrun, I have just finished a 13km ride and my fitbit charge 2 has only picked up 2.66km please add this it cant be that hard 😀
Just bought the charge 2 with its "auto logging" of bike riding... total letdown 😖 How can it NOT be GPS enabled? I bought a garmin watch 7 years ago that can do it!?!? Wake up Fitbit! Please!
Marketing boys probably think if they enable this it bites a chunk out of Surge sales which accurately logs bike rides using in built GPS. Auto recognise bike rides just does not work right. You cycle say 40k which is not unreasonable you also get a hefty 6k steps alongside the ride. Cycling support apart from GPS and the surge seems a very poor afterthought.
Yes, I'd like cycling option included, should be simple as a connected gps only option which then combines the gps map with the heart rate stats from the multi sport mode. Seems odd that this is missing... perhaps I'm missing something... no need to try and do anything fancy with tracking body movement, the stats come from the gps on your phone and the heart rate from the fitbit...
Got fed up with Fitbit inability to respond to their customers simple requests. Took my Christmas money and bought a Garmin Vivoactive HR. OMG what a difference. Does everything I need it to do and more. Fitbit in the trash. Bye Fitbit.
I agree with several other folks who have posted to this forum. Cycling is a very common exercise activity, and as there are several simple gps trackers for cycling out there, it seems clear that adding a cycling option for the fitbit gps tracker would not be difficult. Frankly, it defies logic that fitbit has chosen not to add a cycling option after more than two years worth of requests (judging by the date this forum was started). Since I've owned my fitbit, I've noted that the company has been terrible at responding to my customer support issues, and I keep considering other options. At this point, I'll wait for my fitbit to die, which proabably won't be too long judging by my girlfriends experience, and then purchase something different.
I'm hoping someone reads this who makes a difference at Fitbit. Fitbit used to be a "cool" company. The stock price certainly reflected that coolness. Since then, issues like this have effectively killed Fitbit. Cool is defined in a simple way. When the customer can't figure out how they could get so much value from a product they frequently use they don't just become users, they become fans.
Fitbit knows we want cycling tracking. They have given it to us and marketed it towards us in the form of the Fitbit blaze and surge. The consumer is not stupid. The same exact system used to track cycling with the blaze can be easily added to the charge hr. If the idea is to get people into more expensive trackers, discontinue the HR. Stop producing and move on to more connected products so the consumer doesn't feel scammed, because at the price point of the surge and blaze there is much competition. You're fans are now not fans, they are customers who will be willing to consider your competition because you didn't meet your fans half way. All of your business momentum is gone and so begins the spiraling into the weeds. It was cool while it lasted.
