Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

My food plan relies on tracking the macro nutrients.  I am switching to logging my food in Lose It! to have this functionality.  But I love my FitBit and have had one off and on since 2009.  Please put this functionality in!!

I too am searching for MACRO tracking!  I just got the Fitbit CHARGE HR, which I love, I love the tracking online...but need MACRO tracking.  I also agree the APP lacks the detail of the website.

Considering this post is 3 years old...why are there no responses from any MODERATORS of this site, updating the community on this...

Could you please update us on where this issue stands.  You have a large beautiful community that is following you and looking for a little more...

Without proper communication from FitBit, it leaves us no choice but to seek alternative solutions.

Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks!

I totally agree! I started top respond recently to encourage others to restart this so that the moderators would see our needs and respond. I do not want to seek an alternate because I really like the fitbit !! But for health reasons I MUST track protein so I really need to get this resolved.

I totally agree!  It would be extreamly helpful to see my macro breakdown in the app.  I dont always have my computer to check my breakdown.  It would also be nice to see sugar intake as well.

It would be very helpful to have the carbs, fiber, protein, etc. counts available in the mobile app as my personal trainer has asked that I count my daily carb intake.

I was VERY dissappointed to see that the Carb count on my ChargeHR was simply total carbs. I searched help and discovered if I switch from IE to Chrome, I could then add an app to Chrome that would enable my fitbit dashboard to reflect 'Net' Carbs ....I was excitied and did that.  However....the Net Carb count only reflects Total Carbs minus fiber.  People on low carb diets need more than that. I would like to request that the "Sugar Alcohol" count also be subtracted from total carbs. Those of us on a low-carb program, pay attention to Fiber and Sugar Alcohols when counting carbs. It would awesome to have the ability to do so, so we can have the TRUE "net carb" count for a food item.  I eat protein bars that have 3g of net carbs ....and my fitbit tracker reflects 15 grams of carbs....this is a BIG deal if you're counting carbs!!

As a diabetic it is extremely important for me to know all of the label information - calories, fats, carbs, sugars, sodium, protein, cholesterol, & fiber. On the fats it would be nice to be able to break it down showing saturated fat & transfat to make sure we have that under control. I love the water tracking feature on the app as I would otherwise not be drinking enough for the day.

Could the fitbit app be design to capture the total amount of carbs, protein, fat, sugat etc. daily? It will be really be beneficial which I will be a fitbit owner for life

I agree I would like to be able to plan my days meals out using my macros and fitting them into my calories allowance and unfortunalty fitbit does not do that.Yes you can link the account up to fitness pal but then thats two seperate apps you have to have just to log your meals! It would be much easier being able to plan your food out using your macro requirement if it was added to the fitbit app instead.

I know it's been said about 334 times in the forum, but there is still no update for an app based macro calculator. My Jawbone in 2012 had it.... And that bad boy needed to be plugged into my phone to synch. Come on team, it's not hard and to be honest I just assumed my charge would have it.... Pretty disappointed that it doesn't, so much so I'm thinking about selling it and getting another jawbone.... Might be able to find a 2012 model still kicking around.

Not sure about iOS, but on Android, if you come across a food that is not in the FItBit database and want to create new food using the Android App, you can't enter decimals for things such as "Total Fat" and other micronutrients.

This is important if you are tracking not only calories but all nutrients (such as Total Fat, carbs, etc).  Things such as Saturated Fats are usually decimals, sometimes 0.1 g or 0.4 g and you can only enter 0 or 1.  This messes up the breakdown of percent of diary breakdown.

I pay for premium to track and analyze my diary, but can't enter it properly using my Android Phone.  The only place to enter decimals is on the computer, wich I am never near when entering food.

Having a medical condition like diabetes requires the tracking of carbohydrates. A Fitbit with this option would be a great tool.

I agree this is a huge thing for me!  More important than calories for muscle building!  Please bring macro tracking to the app!

I agree... I'm on the search now to see if I can find another database to use. I hate the idea of needing two but I'm having real concerns about my vitamin intake/ and want to track more in depth -  so I feel like I have to look elsewhere now. I've been using Fitbit as my sole site for almost a year now, but I'm getting closer to an end goal and smaller details are really coming into play with my health as a whole. If I could track vitamins/minerals/saturated fat etc, as easily as calories/fat/carbs/protein, I'd like this site much more!! I'd even looked up premium to see if it maybe included these advanced type features... but it doesn't!! I don't understand why this brand would limit it's site to just the bare bones, when adding a few more items might make them some money!

I like my Fitbit and the iOS app. I have Crohn's disease. I log my food to keep track of how my body reacts to what I have eaten. I would like to request adding fiber reporting as well. Also adding food notes to the IOS app like what is on the web site would be great also.

Yes i would like to have calories, carb, fats, proteins tracked on the mobile app. I am a diabetic and this would be an awesome tool on the go

Is this ever going to happen? Or is FitBit not in the market for people who actually take their food intake seriously?

This would help me a lot. Carbs for my diabetes and protein for building muscles would be great. They have the data, they just need to show it in the app!
