Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

Make the app and device count calories and carbohydrates. It could help a lot of people.

Screw it, I am off to use MyFitnessPal app as it provides a good breakdown of this.  Been asking for this for far too long!  Simple thing to provide as the data is there.

There needs to be a way we can setup a proitein intake goal? Or at least some way to track it?

In the food section it would be nice to see the carbs for yhe food being tracked. This is especially needed for those with diabetes who need to track carb intake.

PIE CHART PIE CHART PIE CHART! Macro percentage piechart on the iPhone app please! There are so many chart pages for everything else (that I do not use). The information is already recorded and displayed, a piechart should not be difficult to add.

I'm following a low carb/high fat diet & it would be awesome to be able to set my Blaze food tracker to track my carbs rather than just my calories.

I agree that fitbit needs a way to change tracking from calories to carbs. I hope that is something in the near future.

Thanks for your response!! I used to think Calories was the most important way of counting, but found that with Diabetes CARBS Counting is more important, and by lowering CARBS , calories are lower. But it is not necessarily true in reverse, Lowering CALORIES does not always lower CARBS. And with so many People walking around not knowing they have Diabetes they are kept in the dark thinking they are eating right, when they could be doing more by cutting Carbs.

I need some macro tracker in my life! Right now I'm using another program to track my macros. It would be awesome if Fitbit could work that into the dailies.

This suggestion was posted over a YEAR ago, how is something like this not been customized yet. I also use an additonal app to track macros and have recently really been watching my food intake. I do not have time to log on the computer after logs to see where I am at. Come on FitBit!!!

I need a single pane of glass (single app) to track diet & exercise.  I need to reduce sodium for medical reasons.  The app tracks sodium intake but there's no way to add a tracker for sodium specifically.  The info's in the Database, but I need a proactive way to set a target goal on sodium intake to keep my consumption in check.  Unfortunately, FitBit's app is greatly lacking in customization capabilites...this was a real bummer for me.  Come on DevOps team, please get this request on your shortlist!

If you are serious about fitness you need to be able to track your macros. I want it integrated into the fitbit --I dont want a 3rd party app!. Otherwise I will buy a device that does it all.

I also agree.  I use the myfitnesspal and it is becoming useless on my little screen.  I want myfitbit to include macronutrients in their IOS app!  I only have so much screen and when it has landmine advertising (myfitnesspal in diary apps) then it becomes useless.

I love how the Fitbit app tracks calories burned and calories consumed via logging food, but it doesn't keep track of nutrition. One of the nice things about MyFitnessPal is that you can keep track of your protein, sugar, carb, etc. intake throughout the day as you log meals. But you can't do that with the Fitbit app. It would be a great addition to further help people reach their fitness goals.

Please add a protein intake tracker. I've had weight loss surgery and it's mandatory for everyone who's had WLS surgery to keep track of protein grams and liquid ounces. Its hard for me to keep track of everything between the fitbit app for my calorie and liquids and a seperate app for my protein intake. Please, make a way to track protein grams aswell! 🙂

Add this feature already. All the calories tracking app want to change you a ridiculous amount for the features. I love my fitbit but I am finding it useless without this feature

Fitbit keeps updating the app, but it's all just a minor facelift each time. I don't need the screens to look different, all we need is just a little extra data! Data that is already on the website!

YES YES YES! I just switched to a fitbit alta from a jawbone UP2 because the UP band kept breaking.  I had briefly tried a fitbit flex a little while ago but wasn't fond of the app or the band.  So far I am LOVING the alta and the updates to the app since I last used it; however, I  really miss the tracking of macros from the jawbone ap.  Like many many others have said, I really rely on this for my meal planning and using 2 apps right now isn't very efficient.
