Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

I had been using My Fitness Pal but have to decided to try and use just the Fitbit app.

My only issue is the inability to view macro intake. Why is this not a feature yet?

I know it's available on the dashboard if you go to the full site but I use the mobile app 99% of the time.

Agreed!  I used to use myfittness pal and relied on that pie chart for fat, carbs, protein every day.  I want to continue using the fitbit food log but really miss my pie chart.  Please add this feature if possible. Thanks!

I love that idea.  For example, I need to eat less than 1500 mg sodium per day and I would love it if the fitbit app on my phone kept a tally of how much sodium  I eat during the day, so I can make an informed decision at any time what I can still eat the rest of the day. I am sure people have similar targets for other nutrients besides sodium.

+1, I plan to move away from Fitbit if this feature is not implemented soon. This is not a difficult code change. The original post was opened 8 months ago, is there is an ETA for this fix?

Need to add Macro tracking to fitbit app. Protein, Carbs, Fat, Fiber, Sugar. Plus things like sodium, vitamins and minerals. I've got 2 different apps I have to track everything on, the fitbit app and Bulkup app. Bulkup app is great, would rather have everything all in one app. Make customers happy !!

I regularly see a personal trainer and give him a print out of my activity and nutrition.

I would be really good if the macro nutrient info could be included in the reporting function, so that I can convert into a chart.

Macronutrient tracking is a huge part of excelling in strength training, endurance training, and a healthy diet. Many free apps, including S Health and My Fitness Pal, already incorporate this feature. Macronutrient tracking, on the mobile app, is a feature that Fitbit needs to incorporate to help those already involved in fitness and to educate those who are new to health and fitness.

By adding what you eat and drink during the day would be nice to have your protein intake calculated along with calories

I just bought a Surge, and the only thing really that swayed me towards the Jawbone was that they have much fuller nutritional information. I reasoned that since it was an app feature, not a hardware feature, it was worth getting the Surge and hoping it would be added in!

So please Fitbit, could you implement a nutrition system more akin to the Jawbone one? 🙂

I totally agree with you. Hope Fitbit staff can add this feature to the mobile app.

Yes! I really wish I could see the macro breakdown within the app. I also wish the food plan options would allow for a desire to eat fewer carbs, less fat, etc. to customize

I understand the desire to keep the app simple by only showing calorie balances, but macro counting is so important to many people that it's a glaring flaw in the app design.  A simple little wheel display like MyPlate uses would work just fine and give us the information those of us who have macro goals need.

so this request along with others to add nutritional information into the app has been around for 2 years and it seems like a lot of people are asking for it.  Is this being considered?

Because it is not offered in the Fitbit App, I have been using MyFitnessPal to log my calorie intake, which then syncs to the fitbit app.  I'd prefer not to have to use another app to track this, and would rather track everything in one app.

I am a HUGE MY MACRO+ and MY WORKOUT app user and I just bought the fitbit charge hr. So disappointed it doesn't like with my macro+ and my workout. I watch my macros and to strength training and cardio. It's important and to implement all aspects of getting healthy and fit. Please sync with these two very popular and awesome apps!!!! My fitness pal wants to charge $9.99 mo or $49.99 year just to count my macros!!!! No thanks!!!!

I'm new to counting Net Carbs and this would be an awesome feature! Just a total would be great !   I noticed that the original request was made over a year ago. Can you please update us with a status on the consideration of this request???!!!

So, we get a new update today and the only thing that changes in the app was the ICON? Are you kidding me? Does Fitbit not have a competent development team? Does anyone know any other measures we can take to convince Fitbit how important macros are?

True!

form over fuction - i can see where fitbit is going. Just like their new sub par bands that have interchangable braclets and no auto sleep waking. A new app with a new icon to go with their fashion accessory direction. Shame, I thought fitbit had it's priorities right.
