Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

I agree, too! Great for Diabetics and Atkins followers. Atkins and FitnessPal apps are inferior to Fitbit, IMHO, for food entry but have the macro breakdown.

This is available through the premium fitbit service but I agree if I'm paying for the premium service could I please see this data in the app I would be much more willing to pay for the premium service if it unlocked more in the app instead of having to visit the website.

I am aware that the breakdown is on the website. I was referring to it being
on the Mobile App.

Yes I know it is the nutrition section. Thanks for responding. What I meant, and I apologize for not being clear is to be able to keep track of TOTAL CARBS eaten daily , similarly to the Total calorie feature. Some people especially Diabetics only keep track of Daily Carbs not Calories.

As far as I could tell, though, it was only available in the Premium section of the online stats. I don't think we should have to pay an extra fee just to see our macros.

It would be great to be able to set up my food plan accordingly to my macro allowance as well as calories.

Thanks

Macros is one of the most important things in fitness, why it's not taken more seriously with fitbit is beyond me.  Please bring it to the app!! and also be able to set macro goals as well.

Pie Charts.  I really like a different app that produces a pie chart breakdown of Protien, Fat and Carbs.  I use it to try to match a macro objective.  I'd happily ditch this other app to have everything integrated into fitbit, but because fitbit doesn't provide macros, I don't use the food option of fitbit.

Is the app "pie charts"? I feel fitbit has the best data base and ease of entry. You determine which unit of measurement oz, grams, etc. for foods rather than pre-selected units. I measure things in grams for the most part.

Apologies if this has been added in feature requests already, I can only find requests under community.

As someone tracking ratios of fat, protein, and carbs, I would be more likely to track food in fitbit if I could set goals for each and track macronutrients here.

I currently use my fitness pal for food because I need to track this and don't want to enter food 2x.

Thank you devs! Love my Fitbit app overall!

No, the other app is called Lose It.  It breaks down the calorie proportions into a pie chart, making it easy to see if you are getting the right amounts of each macro nutrient.

There is a feature to "quick track" calories. Can we make this more specific? I need to "quick track" Carbs, Fats and Protons!

Is this on the app yet? Even just a simple visual macro summary? I really don't want to use MyFitnessPal - their app is an eyesore compared to Fitbit and I'd rather not use two apps in place of two.

Is this seriously not a feature yet? That blows my mind a bit, and not in a good way.

The data is in the FitBit ecosystem.  It should be surfaced, as computer geeks say.  Like @kAr0sh1 and @ellenlynn indicated, we all have different reasons or even different nutritients  we want to track, or graph.  But it all feeds from the same data.

I also concur that MyFitnessPal is a complete mess.  My wife and I left about a year ago, and never looked back.  It was silly to have two systems going.  FitBit Flex at the time, and an Aria Scale, and then MyFitnessPal for food.  And it didn't hurt that MyFitnessPal got bought by UnderArmour who wanted to Monetize that investment.

I also would like to get favorite meals.  So, say for breakfast I have Protein powder shakes, a high fiber english muffin, and 10 grapes.  Why do I have to enter that 3 days a week instead of just clicking on a favorite meal?  Or putting a meal in ahead of time, to see my day's nutrient summary? so I can plan carb intake?

Make it SO

While the Fitbit app does have a calorie tracker for food, a lot of people would like to count their macros too! Many will not buy a Fitbit because it does not have this feature. And some are upset because the only macro counting app compatible with Fitbit it my fitness pal which costs money for the macro counting feature.

Please please please add macro tracking to the app. The app is almost useless without it. I am diabetic and need to track carbs, etc. Manual entry of blood sugar would be nice too. I have to use S Health until at lease macros are added. So annoying!!

Hi all,

In pure frustration, I started working with a developer last year to develop a meal planner and calorie counter with macros built into the core.

It's not pretty at the moment, however, it's a working prototype and if anyone is interested in giving the beta version a try, please head over to the following page on my site and sign up for the trial:

I don't want to use another app to do what a fitness watch tracker should do already, please add macro breakdown to your app, I don't want to have log into the web site every time I need a update on how much protein I need to finish my day off, it's great that it's on the site but I need it on my phone! Please please

Yes, I would love to have these features also, I am Diabetic, and it would be nice to be able to store carb intake, blood sugar all in one place. instead of going to other programs to store. A stop program!!

I made a similar suggestion on twitter! The app on the phone is very useful but the need to log on to the website to get a Macronutrient breakdown is a little tedious.

I reckon that if the macro proportions where listed below the calorie count in the food logging tab that would be easier than trying to programme it into the front end of the app. For those of us training fairly hard on a limited diet - aside from being hungry most of the time, we really do need to know where we are on protein.
