Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

Agree! Muscle is made with protein and keeping an accurate count is needed daily!!!

I am pleased to say I've been using my chargeHR since March and have lost 30lbs. But I do have a suggestion. Currently you only have the capability of tracking calories but actually losing weight involves the types of calories eaten. So I suggest adding carb, protein and fat tracking as well as calorie.....someone wanting to lose weight should really not eat more than 100g of carbs/day and they should eat 1.2Xgoal weight in grams of protein....and fat should be somewhere between 50-80 grams. I totally track my calories but not the other factors but there will be weeks that I am way below my limit but I lose no weight.....because if my calories consist mainly of fat or carbs your not gonna lose weight....u are going to continue to store these. Just a thought! Thanks!

Can we please get this as a feature? Much more useful than a sleep reminder...

Tracking macros would be a HUGE help!!
Totally agree - macronutrients need to be part of the nutrition or food intake section of the app, and have goals and targets to be able to set and see progress towards, just like the sleep or water section. I tried premium, which did not give me this feature, and I tried syncing the app with other nutrition apps (my fitness pal) to get this. It is clunky and untenable to tried to access this info from other applications or from the mobile website. I love the Fitbit app interface - that's where I want to go to enter and track my day's data. please make this part of the nutrition upgrade!
Thank you!

It would be awesome if there was a carb counting feature included with the calorie tracker.

I guess I can't understand if there's 17 pages of comments and 744 votes for this subject over the past 2 years, why it's something that's not been addressed yet? It's a real pain having to link apps... Great that it was set up on the desktop dashboard but surely the majority of users would like this functionality on the app where I guess most users track. C'mon Fitbit...

When logging food, I want to be able to see the nutrient profile (macro and micronutrients) of each item, as well as my totals for the day. Myfitnesspal has this feature, which helps people not only make sure their carbohydrate, fat, and protein is in the correct range, but also that their sodium intake isn't too high/low

I think it'd be a good idea to include more nutrition facts in the nutrition more than just calories. Losing weight or gaining weight is more than just calories in vs. Calories out, but also the quality of the calories and where they came from. Something as simple as a breakdown of how many grams of carbs, proteins, and fats are in each food item logged would make for a much more effective diet.

This would also reach a new group of people or further interest them, as many people do the popular "if it fits your macros" diets to achieve their health and wellness goals, and having all of this in the app would make life easier for a lot of people

It would be nice to tap on the food intake tile and see a break down of macros for the day with percentages, would also be great to be able to set your macro goals and see your progress on the blaze just as it shows calories, but have the option to display macros too.

I've been dreaming of that feature being able to check your watch before you grab a bite to eat so you know what your low in and make a good meal choice .

I would love to be able to tracker macros and also get suggestions based on what I'm wanting to do such as lose weight, how many carbs, protein and fats to achieve my goal.

That would be crossing into what a nutritionist would do for you, rather than a pedometer-type tool. How many carbs, protein and fats for a specific goal can be very individual, not generic. There are some generic "starting points" (i.e. 60% carbs, 20% fat, 20% protein is one) but if you're more active you may need more protein to rebuild muscle, for instance.

I'd like to be able to see my break-downs etc. on the app (I see them on the web page, and use the website on my phone to check them), but nutritional advice can be considered medical advice and might be crossing the line of what's acceptable from a tech company.

I agree that the macronutrients should be available on the app but many of the suggestions for other information such as micronutrients, nutritional advice, diet advice, isn't feasible for an app.

App suggestion. And I understand about the suggestions but it would be great to track them at least. I did find them on the website but I don't use the website, that's the point of an app, right? Thinking about going back to fitness pal and they have more food options.

The myfitnesspal app covers these elements (and more) really well. I think we're just asking for macros to be included rather than having to jump from app to app to track this information.

As stated above, the request for tracking of consumed Proteins, Carbs, and Fats (both numbers AND percentages):

  • has MANY votes here, on a number of different threads/feature requests
  • has been on request for several years
  • has MANY users commenting and requesting this feature over and over.

Notes:

  • I don't want to use MyFitnessPal or anything else.  I want ONE app that does it all.
  • The macro nutriends are ALREADY captured on the fitbit website from the food database.  It can be done!

Please put a macro-nutrient tracking feature in the iphone app, finally!!

Please, please include macro information on the mobile app, but also include Sugar in addition to protien, carb, fat, etc. Also take a look at the Under Armour My Fitness Pal as a guide. They have the option to put in your fitness goal - lose weight, maintain, etc and it gives you macro goals and compares where you are currently at in the day with your daily goal intake of marcos. I LOVE that feature but I would like to be able to do everything from my FitBit app.

@sue.leigh From what I read, the Bio Ring has yet to be produced. It hasn't finalized its hardware components or iOS and Android app submissions. From their website "And now we're well on our way to finalizing our technology to be ready to ship BioRing before the 2016 Holiday season."

Correct, I was just pointing out to folks how it is billed to recored
carbs/fat/protien without tedious entry of food logs.
