it would be great if the Fitbit app could also give us REM, light sleep and deep sleep.

New to the forum.  Came on to vote Yea, on the tracking of REM sleep.

We definitely need MUCH better sleep analytics -- this would be especially helpful for those of us with diagnosed sleep disorders.  The current analytics are so widely-known-to-be-lacking that my doctor's office has a "script" (*cough*lecture*cough*) for those of us who start to say "but according to my Fitbit..."

Definitely agree with the advanced sleep tracking mechanism to be updated into current devices. Most devices in the market is capable of tracking light and deep sleep with only a built in accelerometer, thus making this possible for fitbit to implement.

Bump on this thread. I'd liked to see this feature as well. Jawbone UP had it when they were first released. Surely Fitbit can catch up already.

Absolutely agree. Depending on the data collected, rem, light and deep sleep can be tracked and graphed. Basis Peak had fantastic sleep tracking, JawBone as well I see looks pretty good alghough I never had one.

Failing that could we get detailed data exports, rather than the summerized data, and I'll do the analytics myself, been doing analytics for many years, so wouldn't take too much effort. Essentially just a back propagation convolutional network for the pattern extraction, or multi valent support vectors would also suffice.

Or perhaps an API, where the data can be accessed, and third party applications can integrate.

Please 🙂

Other than that it is a lovely product, thanks!

I agree, more detailed sleep tracking please. I had a jawbone Up before and it showed sleep cycles, which was much better. I'm disappointed Fitbit doesn't do this yet. I think if jawbone produced a better strap for their tracker, I'd go back to that

After moving over to Fitbit from MS Band due to everyone seems to have a Fitbit. I am so shocked on the lack of features and functionality... Come on Fitbit live up to your hype and get the basics right!

I sincerely hope to see improvements in the near futureI just bought a fitbit alta as a Christmas present for myself and was disapppinted at the lack of info provided for the sleep tracker.

The sleep tracker on my phone provides way more useful info than the fitbit. The app I use is SleepTime.

Fitbit, please update the sleep tracker to provide more useful info like light sleep and REM. I sincerely hope to see these improvements in the near future! Thanks!

+1

Deep Sleep, light sleep, movement, awakes and if possible REM sleep.

+1 for this feature.  This feature would be a lifesaver for people with narcolepsy (PwN) since we have a hard time getting REM sleep.  I have narcolepsy and I would love a way to be able to visualize how much REM sleep I get a night.

Sensitive is too sensitive.  Each little movement subtacts at least 10 minutes from your total sleep.   Normal is not quite sensitive enough, though better.  Something in between is needed.  But this idea has been on here for years and nothing has changed yet.

I agree with your comments,

To properly record sleep you need other sensors that fitbit seem most
reluctant to install?

All we can do is to continue requesting improvement as you have done.

Hi Jgray,

Do yo uknow what additional sensors are needed by any chance?

An early smart watch could measure Skin temperature and perspiration rate

The body cools down in sleep so this an important indicator of actual light
sleep helping to determine onset of sleep

Fitbit has much difficulty in determining onset therefore under reports
actual sleep.

Can not find the name of early watch but was not android.

Could be accessed via computer

But for marketing reasons later chose not to access from computer.

Thats when they lost me

I'm happy how things are shown  at the moment..  However the sleep  tracking and how the data shown for last night sleep can be tweaked n shown better.  I just see asleep,  awake and restless data.  It's still not clear if  asleep is normal sleep or deep sleep.

Hi

Sleep comes in cycles of around 2.5hrs

So if you wake between cycles does not really disturb your resting,
otherwise it does

If your sleep periods are 2.5 hrs long then you will have had both light and
deep sleep in those cycle.

So the fitbit track your sleep which is awesome andI love it but the only data they interpret is if you are asleep, restless or awake. Other sleep monitor aps, like sleep as android,  will interpret your sleep as deep, R.E.M, light and awake which are more telling to the quality of sleep that you are getting. I would love to see this implemented as a part of fitbits sleep tracking since I do use this information when evaluating my sleep.

I actually don't care if it tracks it at all but I DO want it to be able to wake me up at up to 30 minutes prior to my alarm if I'm not in a REM cycle!! Like Jawbone!! 🙂

Thanks

Chris that is a useful contribution.

In your situation I would suggest you look at other smart watches
particularly those that claim to record REM sleep and see what sensors they
use to achieve this.

I would be nice to see the new sleep features for other hr Fitbits like the charge 2
