have you not heard Fitbit announced some exciting new sleep tracking tools for its full range of trackers. Called Sleep Stages and Sleep Insights, the two new features are ultimately meant to make your sleep tracking more accurate, more detailed and more useful.
First up is Sleep Stages, which is meant to improve upon Fitbit's current sleep tracking by taking more factors into account. Rather than just relying on accelerometer data and machine learning algorithms, Sleep Stages also takes heart rate variability into account to help determine not only how long you slept, but how long you spent in each stage of sleep. The result is a readout that can give you a deep look at time spent in light sleep, deep sleep, REM sleep, and awake minutes throughout the night. As for Sleep Insights, this new feature takes all of your Fitbit data into account to help find trends that might be affecting your sleep. Think things like diet and exercise patterns. Fitbit will then offer up suggestions on how to improve sleep based on that data. For example, Fitbit might notice that you tend to sleep better on nights after a run. Sleep Stages will work with the new Alta HR, Blaze and Charge 2, while Sleep Insights should work with all trackers except the Zip. Both features are set to roll out in late March and will be available across all of Fitbit's apps.
I believe the Fitbit app is a universal windows app which means any updates one device get should work on all devices the same... Don't hold me to that though.
Any particular reason that the Charge HR has not been updated with sleep stages? Is it a hardware issue or are they just dropping support of a product that I bought little over a year ago to try and force people to buy new ones? If the latter; that's pretty sh!tty customer service...
My fitbit app just prompt me regarding sleep stages. What i did to get this prompt.
• Open fitbit app
• Allow sync to complete
• click on the sleep tile
then i saw some info on the sleep stages bascialy saying it ready i skimed throught the slides explaining it hoping to see my last sleep with the new layout with no joy maybe tomorrow morning the new layout will be displayed.
in my excitement i forgot to do screen shots so if any one else can remember screen shot the info please post them up here
I too was excited when I saw the advanced sleep anlaysis on my Pulse. But after 3 days it was gone. The information provided is much more beneficial then just restless/sleep/et.al. Not sure why this can not be upgraded as opposed, I am sure, to a new model to be released.
I agree. It's frustrating that when I email them to ask I keep getting the same vague non-answer. Today they emailed me to just tell me I should post my request for R.E.M. tracker on this message board.
I would like to have the Sleep Stages added to my FITBIT Surge since it has the Heart rate detection and sleep functions already. Why can't they add it with a firmware upgrade?
If you have an Alta HR, Charge 2, or Blaze, your device has the capability to track sleep stages! You'll be able to see REM, light, and deep sleep in your sleep logs. Here's some good resources to learn more about sleep stages:
