it would be great if the Fitbit app could also give us REM, light sleep and deep sleep.

have you not heard Fitbit announced some exciting new sleep tracking tools for its full range of trackers. Called Sleep Stages and Sleep Insights, the two new features are ultimately meant to make your sleep tracking more accurate, more detailed and more useful.

I have not yet learnt whether any new sensors are involved?

If none it may be no better?

If so it could not be retrofitted?

No I have not heard that?

How does one obtain the update then for existing HR watches?

Please inform us

First up is Sleep Stages, which is meant to improve upon Fitbit's current sleep tracking by taking more factors into account. Rather than just relying on accelerometer data and machine learning algorithms, Sleep Stages also takes heart rate variability into account to help determine not only how long you slept, but how long you spent in each stage of sleep. The result is a readout that can give you a deep look at time spent in light sleep, deep sleep, REM sleep, and awake minutes throughout the night.
As for Sleep Insights, this new feature takes all of your Fitbit data into account to help find trends that might be affecting your sleep. Think things like diet and exercise patterns. Fitbit will then offer up suggestions on how to improve sleep based on that data. For example, Fitbit might notice that you tend to sleep better on nights after a run.
Sleep Stages will work with the new Alta HR, Blaze and Charge 2, while Sleep Insights should work with all trackers except the Zip. Both features are set to roll out in late March and will be available across all of Fitbit's apps.Detail-Page-Long-STAGES (2).png

I believe the Fitbit app is a universal windows app which means any updates one device get should work on all devices the same... Don't hold me to that though.

Any particular reason that the Charge HR has not been updated with sleep stages? Is it a hardware issue or are they just dropping support of a product that I bought little over a year ago to try and force people to buy new ones? If the latter; that's pretty sh!tty customer service...

I would like to see this feature added for the surge as well.  My wife currently has in on her Charge 2.

I too was excited when I saw the advanced sleep anlaysis on my Pulse. But after 3 days it was gone. The information provided is much more beneficial then just restless/sleep/et.al.  Not sure why this can not be upgraded as opposed, I am sure, to a new model to be released.

We seem to have been given some conflicting information?

Or was it prior to the marketing department seeing an opportunity?

ditto.... make available for Charge HR.

Still a fairly new device and still being sold and promoted everywhere I can think of, so please support it.

I agree. It's frustrating that when I email them to ask I keep getting the same vague non-answer. Today they emailed me to just tell me I should post my request for R.E.M. tracker on this message board.

Thanks for response

I am in same situation given my charge only records 3.5 hrs sleep a night.

I would like to have the Sleep Stages added to my FITBIT Surge since it has the Heart rate detection and sleep functions already. Why can't they add it with a firmware upgrade?

If you have an Alta HR, Charge 2, or Blaze, your device has the capability to track sleep stages! You'll be able to see REM, light, and deep sleep in your sleep logs. Here's some good resources to learn more about sleep stages:

Thanks everyone for your input and for voting on this idea! Now get some quality sleep and check out those sleep stages! Robot Happy

Hello,

My hubby has the Blaze and I love how he can track all the stages of his sleep. Is it possible to promote the same update to Charge HR?

Thank you!

Hi,

It seems some misled on this site that it would be available for Charge HR?

I would agree it should be available.

Is there any technical problems in doing this

Or is it a subsequent marketing decision behind closed doors?

Would like to see the different sleep stages as is available with charge HR 2.

How come these features can not be applied to the SURGE?

How about the Surge? Why can't it track sleep stages including REM?
