Turn off quick view when I'm sleeping (or at customizable times) aka 'Night Mode'

I love the quick view feature however when I'm sleeping I tend to wave my arms around which activates the display which sometimes wakes me up, especially if my wrist is close to my face.

My fitbit knows when I'm sleeping as it tracks my sleep so how about having the capability to disable quick view automatically whilst I'm sleeping, in fact don't even have it as a selectable option just don't trigger quick view when my fitbit knows I'm sleeping.

I was searching for this feature and found this feature suggestion forum. This is exactly what I need, if you leave quickview on at night it will wake you up to a blinding light! I however love the feature during the day but I don't want to have to remember to turn if off every night and back on every day. Thanks for reading!

Hi @RobinJSnyder thanks for your suggestion and thanks everyone else for all the comments.

I wanted to give an update that this has been implemented on future products like Ionic and on earlier devices like Blaze. In 'Settings', you can choose 'auto' (as opposed to 'dim', 'normal' or 'max') which adjusts screen brightness based on the ambient lighting conditions. So, at night time, the light emitted from the watch will be much lower. You can also turn off notifications during sleep and exercise in our latest offering, Ionic.

As some of you know, you can also turn off 'quick view' (waking up the screen by turning the tracker towards you) in a lot of devices, but I understand you don't want to have to manually adjust that each night and day. Our goal is for the 'auto' brightness setting to address that issue.

Some of you have also commented that you'd like the quick view to automatically turn off when your device senses you're asleep. You can vote for that suggestion here

There is a wide variety of suggestions, comments and devices in this thread which I hope I've addressed. If you feel your suggestion is still unresolved, please search for existing suggestions (don't forget to check the 'feature suggestion' box) to see if your suggestion already exists and vote/comment there. If you can't find it, feel free to post a new topic eg. 'Dim or Auto setting is still too bright'. Don't forget to be specific, clear and suggest one idea per post so that we can update you accurately.

Thank you all for helping improve Fitbit.

This is a much needed feature! It is almost required to complement quick view, and I'm shocked it hasn't been implemented.

It's crazy that's there's no way to dim the display for night time use!

Agreed, having quick view trigger all night wastes battery. Having the "auto" brightness feature control this doesn't make sense. Many of us do not use the feature because we need it set to Max all the time.  It would be better to run the feature off the "Target Sleep Schedule" setting that we already record.

This sucks so badly. I keep disabling the quick view feature in the late evening manually in the sub-menus of the app every fckn day to get a normal sleep without being blinded. Honestly Fitbit! It can't be that complicated to at least make the quick view time dependent!

I think this is a market ploy to get us to buy there new product. It will never be fixed. We can't even get a response from anyone who cares.

Bingo!  When Fitbit does implement suggestions from customers, it's always in a new product, not as an update to existing ones.

Since the Fitbit people are clearly ignoring our views on here, how about if we make a point of reviewing the device on Amazon and anywhere else we can find it, telling people not to buy it because it blinds you at night and the Fitbit people will not respond to user comments??

@BobM2 not so, the last two updates to the Charge 2 where all about adding requesrs found here.

Both the Blaze (the last two updates where mostly suggestion based)  and Surge, have received updates based on customer feedback in this forum.

A few people say the have quickview off but it still loghts yo at night. Personally it doesn't bother me somce i sleep with my eyes closed

@Rich_Laue  Sleep deprivation has seriously detrimental effects on ones health and life (and mood and patience.)  The fact that you make a joke about it tells me it's never happened to you.  I originally bought my fitbit One in order to help figure out how to address my very serious sleep issues.  When the One started having problems, I decided to "upgrade" to the Charge 2, because why not?  Since I now can no longer use it to monitor my sleep problems because this issue makes them worse, I seriously regret buying it.  I would have returned it, but by the time I realized it had this problem, it seemed like it was too late.  I had wondered why fitbit stock was down because I always liked my One and thought they had good products, but my opinion has changed, and I'm unlikely to ever buy a fitbit again.  It appears your experience with them has been different, but bottom line they are losing customers by not responding better to the customer feedback.  Even a more recent message on here saying that they hear us and giving any indication of whether to expect it to get better would help.  In the absence of that, I assume it won't.  I'm no longer a loyal customer.

@Rich_Laue

The last update was a "bug fix" of unspecified changes which made things worse for many people, with multiple reports of battery life problems, and more.  The one before that added new "sleep" stuff. When I search the forums, I found maybe a dozen votes for that. Trivial compared to the thousands of votes for things people really want, and which Fitbit ignores completely. And the new sleep stuff made it worse for me. At least 25% of the time it doesn't think I sleep at all, so I now take it off at night.

The simple truth is that Fitbit ignores its customers, and does what IT wants, rather than what we really want. Fitbit decision makers are never out of internet coverage, so they think it's OK to disable syncing if you don't have internet. Fitbit decision makers apparently sleep with eye masks on, so don't care that thousands of their customers have requested a true night mode. Fitbit apparently never actually uses the stopwatch feature, so they don't care that it's useless to have a stopwatch display go blank after 3 seconds.

The [very] few customer requests they've implemented are the exceptions that prove the rule. 99% of what we ask for never even get a response, much less implemented.

@LMJones & @BobM2 You guys nailed it. This feature request is #2 in the forums. NUMBER 2!! That means that of all the suggestions, this is the feature that second highest number of votes by customers. 3370 votes and almost 530 comments and all it gets is "Reviewed by Moderator". Here a few of the things that are important enough to Fitbit to implement:

Lame. Looking forward to seeing Garmin's new products in October.

Black tape. It's the only option.

Sleep detection is also no longer acceptable. Recording around 4 hours a night. The screen would be on most of the night anyway for me.

I only need to monitor sleep at the moment and disappointed that a Fitbit is no longer the device for the job.

Everyone ... until Fitbit adds this request to an update, you have the option to turn quick view on and off. I turn mine off at 9:00 pm then turn it back on the next morning. It's an extra step but it solves the problem of flashing lights at night.

LMJones

@SunsetRunner No, it doesn't.  I've had quick view turned off for over 6 months, and this is still a problem daily.

If you read through this thread, you'll find many, many complaints that the screen still comes on by itself even with quick view turned off. The Charge 2 seems to interpret being rubbed across the sheets as a tap and turns the screen on.

I am 75 years old and originally posted that I felt they would never change anything was just being a realist. I agree I would never buy a Fitbit for myself or any of my kids grandkids or great grandkids. We just need a way to turn off that stupid light and I would be very happy with this product. Otherwise I love it but do not wear it to bed. As soon as I save enough I will try the Apple Watch.

I think most folk know how to switch off quickview, but it still lights up if you move the wrong way. It would be a simple addition to the software to add in a night-mode page on app. If the light doesn't bother some folk, they wouldn't need to turn on night-mode.

These posts obviously aren't getting anywhere near the software people. Must be getting screened by someone thinking they're doing a great job!
