Weekly Report: Add Cals In Vs. Cals Out

I just noticed that Fitbit has changed the style of the emails for Weekly Progress Reports, and this change has removed some of the information I find most useful. This information being the "Calores In vs Calories Out" tile.

As such, is there anywhere in the new format that allows me to access the information that used to be shown under "Calories in VS Calories out" in the old format?

If not, please incorpoate this tile again - it is the most useful one!

This was removed from the weekly report about last December,  2016. Many complaints but Fitbit chose to ignore them.  I keep track on my own.  Can also use My Fitness Pal which has an excellent food calorie data base.

Thanks for confirming. Agree - that's a poor business strategy: to force customers who already purchased the product into subscription model by taking away key metric from the free app. I wonder if the extra subscription revenues justify for Fitbit the loss of leaving customers going to a different device altogether. I have purchased 6 Fitbit devices over the years so far, guess now may be the time to try something else...

I think I found a somewhat acceptable workaround. Using Fitbit iphone app:

  • open the app and tap on the calories tile which you use to add consumed calories.
  • chart on the top of the screen shows the cals in vs out for the past 7 days.  It is not very helpful if you like me are looking for weekly delta.
  • click on the two arrows at the top right to maximize the report.
  • the tab on the top defaults to 1 wk.  Change to 1 mo.
  • the month report shows cals in vs out aggregated per week. Scrolling sideways shows the prior months.

Although this view does not show the _exact_ number, a visual most of the time is sufficient to see where you are...

Hope this helps...

I'll vote for this as well! I'd like to be able to see weekly net calorie information available on the dashboard so I can see how I'm doing towards my goal, as well as that info being included in the weekly report.

Thanks! I love your product.

I agree with you, it’s one of the things that was useful, i just don’t know if fitbit know what they’re doing anymore; to the point where im back using my old heart rate monitor and heart strap and old but  trusty calorie king ....☹️

I totally agree mollietellum - it is common sense, but sadly an attribute that Fitbit do not seem to share.

It’s sad especially when tried and proved old fashioned pre fitbit technology does as good a job without the frustration . I guess the volume of people on the blogs saying the same things over and over agein testifies to an issue which is not being addressed 😞 when will common sense prevail?

Users should be able to see the daily calorie deficit in the same way as viewing calories consumed or burned -  Getting into deficit is the entire point for FitBit users looking to lose or maintain weight. This piece of data should have it's own tile in the dashboard and be viewable on your FitBit unit on your wrist. Basic no brainer stuff and the lack of readily having this info accessible in quick view is a big drawback of using FitBit.

Couldn't agree more Jogger. Many people are saying the same - where is the
common sense?

Shame on Fitbit for not even bothering to reply to any of the posts -
especially when the cals in / cals out figures were shown on the former web
based Fitbit site and were only dropped when the App was introduced.

It is about time Fitbit got their act together - by failing to show
calorie intake and calories burned totals on a device marketed as being for
people interested in health and fitness and monitoring their own
performances it highlights the lack of common sense in the Fitbit
rationale. There are so many other products available now - and quite a
few at a lower price. As a result I can see Fitbit losing many of their
users when their device fails - at the price they charge the expectation is
for a far more robust device (another thing that Fitbit should be looking
to resolve).

Come on Fitbit I challenge you to give an answer to this problem - I cannot
see that you can give a valid reason for not including this information in
the weekly reports as both calorie input and burned are recorded and must,
therefore, be available as a total. All that is needed on the App is
another tile for the calorie input/burned difference - or tiles for the
separate elements. Easy, easy, easy.

Totally agree, why take something away that people clearly want and need. Survey people before you change things ask people what there favourite features are.. The features they love to use and the features they least use, then make changes. Have some common sense Fitbit. Clearly people like this feature and some of us pointed this out well over a year ago. Yet you do nothing.. Fitbit do you actually even read your own forums? This feature is critical for people trying to lose weight and maintain there health. It’s also important to people who want to maintain weight in maintenence mode.. it’s also a great feature that was encouraged exercise I know it encouraged me to keep up my efforts and try and improve on my previous weeks results. Trying to work out calories in v’s out is really difficult and I personally suck at mathematics. So please Fitbit fix this issue it’s well overdue otherwise many of us who want this feature will eventually try other products on the market when our Fitbit’s die. I know that what in planning to do if this issue isn’t resolved promptly.

Here we are a year later and still no Calories In/Out tile returned to our weekly Fitbit report. I think this is my 4th or 5th comment voicing displeasure over the loss of this most useful info - that obviously many of us miss! Helllloooo Anybody Home? Anybody Awake? Breathing? Alive?

I'm guessing that if they offered this at all it would be part of the premium (paid) feature.  Does anyone have the paid version?

You’re probably right GalinAZ, but when I bought my Fitbit it was free with the weekly report, and I relied on it for almost a year before they yanked it. It’s the only thing I miss and resent having it taken away. People don’t like their freebies discontinued - human nature.

Communication in any form is not a strong point in the Fitbit organisation. Sad state of affairs.

Hey @copper64! Nice suggestion, that would be an interesting addition to the weekly report, thanks for sharing. We look forward to hearing what other community members think.

I don’t use the fitbit app for much any more now nor do i rely on the fitbit devise for fitness readings,  I’ve gone back to the old fashioned polar HRM and calorie king and I’m laughing my arse off because in the last 2 months I’ve lost nearly 3 kilos, you know now what’s NOT on my Christmas list again ....I’m not going to say anything else anymore... have fun everyone....

Are you trying to be funny? If Fitbit had not Removed it in the first place, it wouldn’t need adding at all!!!

Think this joker is trying to yank all our chains people!

Hi Beirut Bomber, I should clarify that my comment was not directed at you, but at Santifitbit.

Santifitbit seems to suggest that this is a new suggestion/idea that would make an interesting addition when the fact of the matter is the cals in vs cals out was there originally and is what 100s of people have been complaining about since the app was “updated” (downgraded more like), earlier this year.

Santifitbit either doesn’t know what he’s talking about, or if he does know he’s trying to be funny/winding us all up.

I’ve been waiting 9 months for them to sort this out. It’s ridiculous, they show no regard to their customer’s wishes at all.

If they fixed this, I would contemplate buying their shiny new fitbit that you can you use to swim in at £299 but that would be a huge waste of money without the cals in/out calc.
