I submitted my watchface on April 26, 2020, and it's been a month literally without any progress either way with the review. I emailed support team and all I got was that they know the issue with review queue and understand and appreciate patience.
Well how do you expect to retain a community of developers if you take this much time to approve a simple clockface?
My suggestions to improve process you may follow at least one to get somewhere:
1. At least partially automate the process if you can't handle this much load.
2. Add more restrictions to comply for developers if you need less amount of faces or apps to get in your review queue.
3. Use approach approve all and restrict later, if you're okay with amount of apps coming through.
But make it fast.
