I was thinking that possibly, an easy solution to allow native apps to talk with the Ionic, would be to add support for registering URL schemes in the companion API. The beauty of this is that it would be JS friendly, easy to implement and cross-platform.
The companion API might register a URL scheme (say cmp://) and be able to receive messages from native apps in both iOS and Android. Once the companion app is done, it can invoke back the native app with a different URL scheme. Still a little too cumbersome vs. something like PebbleKit but seems to be battery friendly as opposed to solutions based on polling.
What do you think?

You should definitely submit it as an "SDK" suggestion https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/idb-p/features

Done here.
Jon, please make sure the product team doesn't screw up.
I would hate to see this product stale without reaching the full potential
