I believe, with the new app, Google removed the social aspects of FitBit.

@AliH2114   @AZ-TX   This feature got locked today in preparation for the Google Health app launch.  Friends aren’t going away, but there are changes coming.

Hi there, @AliH2114. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. 

As @LZeeW  and @AZ-TX mentioned to you, the Fitbit app is about to change to the Google Health app and some things are changing, when you update to the Google Health app, you can manage your friends again and compete with them on your weekly leaderboard which now supports steps and Cardio Load. For the time being,  you won’t be able to add or remove friends, and your leaderboard won’t update. This pause is to help prepare your experience in the Google Health app. On the old Fitbit app, social experiences started being locked since May 12, 2026.
