How to turn on waterproof mode with Sense 2

Hello,

My husband just gifted me a Sense 2 watch, I was using the Inspire 2 tracker.   How do I turn on and off the waterproof feature for Sense 2?  This is for showering and for water aerobics/water Zumba.  I don't see a water lock icon.  Many thanks, I love the watch!

Hi @JLW2009  - there is no manual water lock on this watch.

Note, it is advised not to shower with it as they don't like hot water or detergents as this may gradually destroy the waterproof seals which are quite fragile.

Once the watch is near the end of warranty it may be wise not to get it wet at all in case the seals have deteriorated .

Hello @JLW2009 and welcome to the Community.  I just want to add something so you and others are clear about the Water Lock.  The Water Lock does not change the water resistance of any Fitbit device.  It keeps water from activating the screen.

@Guy_ I know but this information should be available under such claim in spec. Promo materials is what people look at before buying. Help pages are being searched when things don't work as expected. There should be simple asterisk and footnote for it. And speaking about spec, see description of Google Wallet 😏 Something is missing there, too.

Hi, thank you for your reply!  I see that mentioned a lot, and good heads up on the waterproof seals and how delicate they are.  I'll get used to this.  As long as I can wear and track for my water aerobics classes and water zumba classes, (my main exercises), then that works.  Thank you again!

Thank you, that is fine, I would take my Inspire 2 into the shower (and turn on the waterproof lock) and into the pool for my water aerobics classes (also waterproof lock).  I see where you can use the Sense for swimming, and that does lock the screen when that is chosen, so I guess I will use that and hopefully my steps in class will be counted, just like they were on my Inspire 2.    Thank you again for replying!  The Fitbit site is helpful, and so is customer support.

Thank  you! I am seeing the waterproof vs water resistant language,  I should be ok, I will see if I wear in the shower, but I should be fine for water aerobics and water zumba.  Thank you again!

Hi: I just got my Sense 2 and am curious if you have tried I fir your water zumba class. I am hesitant because it says not to use for water sports, and I think an intense water zumba might include that.

Hi @Ed2000 - where did you find it says not to be used for water sports?

Normally if the watch fails from water getting in it can be replaced under warranty but as it can also accumulate over time probably best to stop using in water 2 months before the end of the warranty to be safe.

Also, how long is the warranty on the Sense 2?

Hi @sringrose - individual watches vary, some may retain water resistance and others not. This can also vary over time and how the watch is treated.

Warranty period depends mostly on country law. Presumably 1 year is the minimum but for some countries 2 years (or even 3) is standard, and extended warranty is also available.

@sringrose yes, I did swim with Sense 2, now with Sense. It did survive water without issues. However, it was also useless so as well it's better to leave it on dry land. Swimming was one of reasons why I switched back to Sense as swim tracking has been downgraded on Sense 2. In general, only my old Ionic suffered water damage in the past (shower, not pool) and other watches didn't show signs of damage after using in pool. In the water, you may want to use Swim (even if it's open water or any other activity during which watch makes contact with water) to enable touchscreen lock (water lock). Otherwise, water will be randomly navigating your screen UI sending random taps. Mind that 50m water resistance means 50m of still water (this is how it's tested). That may change when moving or swimming in open water. Those watches are made for surface swimming, diving 50m would most likely kill any Fitbit.

Hi: In my search, I found somewhere it was okay for swimming but not watersports; however, based on what you have said, I think I might not even try it in water or perhaps stop a few months before the end of the warranty.

Hi, no, I have not tried it in water Zumba or water aerobics, I need to, I am just hesitant!  The fitbit Inspire tracker that I had before I upgraded to Sense 2 was great, so easy to use for water sports or in shower.
