Why do I have to leave my app open on my iPhone in order to avoid my Fitbit from saying it’s not connected to my phone? If I close the app I get the phone with the slash through it all the time.

@Chicpea , A warm welcome to the Community! Thank you for your message.
It's recommendable to have the Fitbit app running in the background to have a proper connection between your phone and your Sense 2. This helps forwarding the notifications and messages from your phone (other apps) to your Fitbit device.
This also helps with the automatic synchronization, GPS connection, and other features.
If you want to give a suggestion I invite you to post it in our Product Feedback board in the Fitbit Community. This is the best place to raise new ideas and comment on other members' suggestions.

@Chicpea That is one of Fitbit's Status indicators and you can turn them off if you want. Swipe down on your Sense 2 screen and tap on the Settings (gear) icon. Tap on Display. Scroll down to Status indicators and toggle it off. There are four indicators and they will tell you that you are in DND mode, Sleep mode, your battery is critically low, and this phone connection loss. It is all or none, so you can't just turn off this phone connection indicator.
Having your app closed doesn't seem to interfere with your daily use and habits. So you might want to turn the indicators off. The only thing that pops up from time to time is that the screen is very sensitive. People can inadvertently put their devices into DND, Sleep mode, and so on.
