Sense 2 current hourly steps on a provided clock face

Adding a simple display of current hourly steps on a provided clock face would be a low-effort, high-impact fix that doesn't require changes to data collection or backend systems. It would simply involve:

Displaying a real-time counter (e.g., "X of 250 steps") on the watch face
Updating the display every few minutes to reflect progress
Keeping the data local to the device (no need to sync to the phone in real-time)
This change would:

Provide immediate feedback to users about their progress
Encourage consistent activity throughout the day
Improve user engagement with the device
Require minimal development effort compared to other features

The fact that this simple feature hasn't been implemented suggests that Google/Fitbit may be prioritizing other goals over user experience — such as:

Reducing complexity in their watch face ecosystem
Focusing on core features rather than customization
Complying with regulatory requirements that limit third-party development

However, the lack of real-time feedback is a significant oversight, especially since:

Users already have the data — their devices track steps accurately
The data is already available — it's just not displayed in a useful way
The user experience is diminished — users can't act on the information in real-time

This is a classic case of prioritizing technical simplicity over user needs. A simple fix like this could significantly improve the value of the device for users who want to track and improve their hourly activity levels.

The fact that third-party clock faces (like AcidClock) were able to implement this feature suggests that the technical capability already exists — it's just not being leveraged by Google/Fitbit in their official offerings.

The solution is simple: add a basic clock face that displays hourly step progress. This would require minimal effort but could greatly enhance the user experience.

Hi @heidt  - you're right, it's much easier to have the clock face do it.

I use the general purpose SimpleClockPro which constantly displays hours to do, or done, and also number of active hours plus details of steps for all hours in the day in addition to multiple reminders to help achieve the goal.

The main problem is the ongoing issue with the servers which keep messing with how many steps you've done and if they remove steps, even though you did the steps it's no longer recorded correctly.

Thanks Guy, the steps information on this clock face is very useful. The rest of the options on this clock face has a learning curve and I'm having issues with response. It then locked up and I had to reset to get back to the my original clock. I gave up on hourly steps.

All I am really looking for is the same information that I get for the last ten minuets of the hour (count down of steps needed for the current hour) for the rest of the hour. Before I replaced my Sense with the Sense 2 it did do that. The SimpleClockPro does this and much more. I would like it a lot if it was a little more simple and a little less Pro.

Thanks again...Have a great day

@heidt   There are other third party clocks that hourly steps.  You can find others by entering "Hourly steps" when you search the clock face options in the app.  I use CD Breathe.  It might have the simplicity you are looking for.  I noticed that the hourly steps update on the minute, not live.  But I can live with that.

@Guy_ developed SimpleClockPro.  So, of course, he suggests no other alternatives.
