I believe it will work similar to what Suunto did with Suunto 7 model. That make me assume that Fitbit will be one of WearOS apps on the watch that does simply what Fitbit watches do (although may be integrated more seamlessly). It is kind of weird to release Fitbit and Google watches pretty much at the same time and both can use Fitbit platform.

I think one of the big issues is that most Fitbit users wouldn't settle for the (reportedly) one day battery life of the Pixel watch. So replacing the Fitbit smart watch line with the new Pixel smart watch just simply isn't an option. I've seen some reports saying that the pixel watch will be able to sync directly with the Fitbit app, so there is a bit more integration to it than a 3rd party might have.

@N8teGee one day of battery life would be catastrophic. New Samsung watch has 80hrs of regular usage and Samsung claims 20 hours of continuous GPS. Galaxy Watch 5 is also WearOS watch. I find hard to believe Google wouldn't try to match those numbers. Otherwise they would put themselves in the position of Apple many years ago. That worked only because a) no competition b) market wasn't saturated yet. I am really curious what is going to be the reality of Pixel watch 🙂

I'm pretty sure I read something saying that the Pixel watch has been delayed for so long that the components are at least a generation behind. If this is the case it would explain the disparity between itself and newer wear os watches.

The pixel watcth will come branded with fitbit software. This watch will require both the fitbit app and the Pixel app on the phone. Might even require a sync for each one.
Google will still only have access to the meta data.
