Hi @EJSGRL.

Have you checked to see if your height is entered correctly in your profile? If it is I would then suggest checking if you have set a custom stride length by mistake.

You can check this by the following -

  1. Tap Activity & Wellness

     Exercise

    Stride Length.

Thank you for responding, i just checked an unfortunately my height and stride is correct. I’ve had a fit bit sense since 2016 and this new sense 2 is the first time I’ve had issues with steps and miles not matching up. I walked 15,000 steps on Friday and it showed 1.2 miles…

Hi @EJSGRL , @Blues-Mom  - it might be related to a GPS issue .

If you use GPS which can measure distance and it stops, then the distance might stop measuring but the steps still keep counting.

@Guy_ this isn't true. Walking/running distance will count regardless GPS connection.

@Triletics - true but will it switch between them seamlessly on all watches? Haven't tested this yet. But you can see by looking at the map perhaps.

@Guy_ there is no switching. GPS isn't much in use during walking/running. If you open the TCX file there is a "distance" tag that always increments and isn't an exact match to the GPS distance (calculated from waypoints). It was always like that. GPS is most likely used to create a map and adjust stride length if it's set to be adjusted automatically. This in fact I found problematic in the past when the GPS disconnected. The GPS distance wouldn't match the actual route (missing waypoints) and that would adjust the stride length of the next activity to the incorrect value. Not sure whether FItbit ever addressed that (and don't really care, I lost any faith in Fitbit when it comes to sports tracking improvements long ago)

@Triletics is absolutely correct. This is exactly how GPS is handled on Fitbit devices. Many of us previously voiced our concerns/frustration unfortunately to no avail.

Pair this with the atrocious GPS performance on recent devices and it only makes matters worse.
