Sense 2 screen display overlapping

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The other day my Sense 2 was crashing. It looked like it had multiple screens overlapping itself. When that was working, then the touch responsiveness was gone. I had to force restart my Sense 2 three times that day. There following days it's been working perfectly with no issues.

It is funny, with the completely unreliable and inaccurate HR sensor, the "floors climbed" (altitude sensor) that can't correctly count floors climbed, I was at least confident in the Sense 2's ability to count steps. Until today when it threw away over 1,100 steps. This started with some silly overflow error where someone used a signed integer that caused a calculation to go negative and overflow. It resulted in this display:

Now, obviously there are not that many minutes (or even zone minutes since the max is two zone minutes per clock minute) in three days.

After this overflow error, the Sense 2 began to exhibit the multiple screens overlayed as the original poster in this thread shows:

As you can see, I was at 5,549 steps. It eventually just locked up, requiring a reboot by holding down the button. After the reboot it was at 4,391 steps (likely where I was when the overflow error first ocurred). That's 1,158 steps of 5,549 just tossed out and dumped.

So it can't even count steps reliably.

BTW, I was at 404 zone minutes for the week already - so I did not need to get ANY additional zone minutes to make the weekly goal of 150 that it was showing in the initial error.

That is 263 counts under ff ff ff ff in hex assuming 16 bit words.  Really odd.

I'm having the same problem. Along with watch staying On & flatening the battery

I am having a similar issue, with my Sense 2 freezing twice now with plenty of battery and usually when I am around 9,900 steps for some reason. I have had to restart both times and have only had it for a week.

I imagine it goes like this:

At 4 days (I have my week set to start on Sunday, so Wednesday was correct), it is setup to check on your progress towards the weekly goal for active zone minutes so that it can tell you to "pick up the pace" like it says in the screenshot. It has a faulty check for the pseudo code:

"if weeklyAchievedZoneMinutes >= weeklyGoalZoneMinutes then do nothing"

Since that check is faulty or missing, it subtracts:

"neededZoneMinutes = weeklyGoalZoneMinutes - weeklyAchievedZoneMinutes"  (in this case 150 - 404).

It expects a positive number and gets a negative. At this point, who knows. Could be an overflow, could be a narrowing cast of a signed int to an unsigned int, etc. But that is where it breaks.

It also explains why the number it shows - 65,000 something - is different each time because one day it may be 150 - 404, another day it may be 150 - 475, etc.

Anyway, with access to the code and the development environment, very easy to fix...

Assuming that something else isn't writing to "neededzoneminutes" i.e. a faulty register reference pointer.  And judging by the doulbe or triple overwritten screens I suspect more likely a fault in the register pointers.  Possibly a compiler error.

Several times in the last week my watch face is trying to display more than one thing at once. For example it shows the clock face and a body response alert o and the only way to get rid of it is to wait until the screen goes black.

Anyone else found this?

I have had the same issue twice, for me I got a notification (just a buzz, nothing to display). My watchface (standard Sp02 signature) was frozen. I was able to swipe up and down. But as soon as I swiped left the first tile moved over the watchface and my Sense 2 froze completely. I needed to restart (pressing button 10 seconds) to get things working again.

Yeap. It happened to me today.

I have to long press the button for 10s to restart it. It is pretty annoying for a 2nd generation product.

After the force restart, my Sense 2 went back to a stock watchface and I have to sync again to reinstall the watchface, too.

Have been using my Sense 2 for about a week. The screen has been freezing every time I am using my elliptical. After resetting it, I lose steps. I've turned off the weekly goal reminder after reading Jerry Ham's reply. Hopefully it will resolve the issue.

Hi,

i'm also affected by this issue.

The device vibrates 2 times and then multiple screens like clock face, weather and so on are overlapping.

Launching Alexa by pressing the side button does work without an issue and the overlapping disappears. After i close alexa the issue reappears.

Switching to an other clockface does not help to fix the issue.

Only a restart of the device fixes the issue temporarily.

Happening here too, it seems to happen when ever automatic walk tracking starts, I usually leave it alone and it disappears or I restart the watch as others have suggested

Hi,

may I ask what firmware version your watch is running on?

I would be annoyed if the problem still occurs with the new firmware and has not been fixed.

Markus

Hi @geminiwoe, have you already received the new Sense 2 firmware: 60.20001.184.52? I'm on the new firmware and haven't seen it happen (yet).

I got the new firmware 184.52 yesterday. And, today, it did that wonderful "pick up the pace" where it tells me that I need 65,952 more zone minutes in the next 3 days. Great! Something super simple to fix, and it wasn't fixed in this firmware. It is the issue shown upthread here: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Sense-2/Sense-2-screen-display-overlapping/m-p/5265006/highlight/tru...

Not the overlapping, but the first screen where it shows a ridiculous number of zone minutes required. It definitely still does this.

I received the new firmware last night and today it did not happen. Keeping an eye on it and if it happens again , I'll be right back here.

I've only have had it for one day but so far when I went on a long walk it did not activate the automatic exercise, but when I got home and updated my Fitbit it actually recorded it as an exercise without me prompting it, not sure if that's a new feature or a bug but the overlay did not happen on the new update, oh and I receive Google pay but for some reason it doesn't work with my Capital One cards, but it works on my phone with Capital One, another bug I guess.
