Put on my Fitbit before using treadmill, and removed it when I was done. Showed 4800 steps, 2.6 miles for the exercise, which accurately reflected what the treadmill monitor showed. But it shows I’ve done 9800 steps and 5 miles for the day. Where did those extra 5000 steps come from when I only wore it on treadmill?

Hello @Chico2018, nice to see you around the community!
I'm happy to see how great you are doing with your daily activity! Getting close to those 5K steps is an amazing achievement.
It is quite common to see your metrics (specifically steps and distance) double if you have your phone set up as a tracking device in the app. This option allows you to use your phone as a step counter in case you aren't wearing your Fitbit. To avoid this, please make sure to remove your phone as a tracker

I hear you! It's strange if the phone wasn't moving.
However, this often happens because the app tries to merge data from different sources (like background syncs or other health apps linked to your phone). Even if the phone stays still, having MobileTrack active can cause these 'phantom' steps to appear when it syncs with your Fitbit.
Quick way to check: Tap the Devices icon (top left) in your app. If your Phone is listed there as a tracker, that’s where the extra steps are coming from.
