Can I get Sense to let me know how many laps I've completed?

Hello have the original Sense and was wondering if I can get it to let me know how many laps I've completed after I run on a treadmill or outside on a track.

Hello @Leonard15 and welcome to the Community.  You can do it easily for the outdoor track.  Treadmill is problematic.

  • Outdoor track:  Select the Run shortcut.  Swipe up on the tiny "^" at the bottom of the screen.  Swipe up to the Laps setting and select Auto count (select rule).  Select Kilometers and set the distance to 0.4 km.  Even if you measure in miles, standard tracks are 400 m in lane 1.
  • Treadmill is problematic.  There is a lap option, but the Auto count doesn't have a distance option.  There is a Manual lap option.  When you use this option, the Top stat is a Lap icon.  You need to monitor your distance on the treadmill and you tap on that icon to count a lap.

@LZeeW wouldn't Run work on treadmill as well but with GPS off? Then it would be possible to use automatic laps while distance would be coming from sensors not GPS (didn't try that, just guessing).

@t.parker  Technically, yes.  I started with the simplest answer.

Thanks for the information as I followed you're instructions for the run feature and ran on my track last night and it worked as it accounted for all the laps that I did on the 400 meter track. Also I was wondering if it's possible if I selected the miles feature on the watch instead of KM? And if so how much miles do I select on the watch to correlate to a 400 meter track?

Also about the treadmill I've had it on auto count and thus it does not count my laps so I guess I'll try the manual count. But am I supposed to do something on my watch while running? That's a pain b/c I run very fast 8mph intervals and thus don't have time to keep checking my watch while running.

Ok thanks I'll try that feature tonight when I run on the treadmill.

@Leonard15   Feel free to use miles when you are doing distance running.  The miles lap options are whole and some half mile increments.  The kilometer lap options specifically have 0.4 km for track lap running.  You can't auto count a track lap using any mile increment.

Here is @t.parker's suggestion in greater detail.  When you are on your treadmill, choose Run, but turn the GPS off.  Your distance will get calculated using steps x stride length.  Then you can use your preferred auto count distance lap settings in the Run shortcut.  You will have to readjust your settings when you switch between your treadmill and the track.  Does this make sense to you?  Actually, a moderator recommends the Run shortcut with GPS off for users that run on a treadmill.  The mod said that thee treadmill shortcut uses your walking stride length at all times.

Thanks for the information. I 've got my track running all set now on the watch. Now I'm going to set the treadmill exercise but I just need to figure out where on the watch the feature is for turning off the GPS as I'll try that route for tonight and see what happens.

@Leonard15  After you choose Run, you need to swipe up a bit to get to the GPS on/off toggle.  It's below the option to customize you top/middle/bottom stat.

Hello thanks I turned off the GPS in the run feature prior to me run last night but I didn't know what to change the lap count total too so I just left it at every 0.4 KM. After my run was complete on the treadmill of 35 mins it said I ran 3.14 miles and completed just over 13 laps. On the treadmill it said I completed 3.78 miles and this specific treadmill doesn't give a lap count. Basically I run the same pace & distance every night that works out to a distance of 3.5 miles in 30 mins which is equivalent to just over 14 laps on a track. I let it cool down for an extra 5 mins hence why the treadmill shows 3.78 miles after 35 minutes.

So my next question is there a way for my watch to corelate with the distance given on the treadmill? I know when I run outside on the track it says I've done about 3.5 miles in just over 14 laps completed so that's all good. Do you think I have to change the lap count total from 0.4 KM?

@Leonard15   It's nearly impossible to get your Fitbit distance to match your treadmill distance.  The treadmill measures its distance from the belt movement.  That can be off if the treadmill isn't serviced regularly.  You will also change your stride if you change your speed or the incline.  Don't expect it to match.  Smile if it does.

Thanks. I already know what I run on the treadmill as I have my own 30 min intervals that I do every night and every treadmill I use gives me the same numbers and that's good b/c it's consistent. It's good as well that when I run on the track that it gives me the same distance that I do on the treadmill e.g. 3.5 miles equals slightly over 14 laps outside and that is what my watch says.
