Different UX for button usage when in exercise mode vs. not is frustrating

I have my Sense set to have the screen off to save battery. I press the button to turn on the screen, then push the button to turn it off again.

If I do this while running, the second button press pauses my workout. It doesn't turn the screen off, it stops all measurement of my exercise. I don't notice the workout is paused until I accidentally push the button again to check my progress.

This dual behavior when using the same button is not great UX. I effectively have to unlearn the standard UX and train myself to use the watch differently. Is making pausing easy that important? Who is pausing their run all the time? Why?

Hi @countingstep123 if you don't press the button a second the screen will timeout, unless you set the display to stay in during an exercise.

I suggest briefly covering the display with the palm of the other hand, which should turn the screen off.
