Firmware update 6.17...

A new firmware was released, make sure you are on the same wifi as your phone and charging, was a very small package sent to watch... Decompiling it and reviewing changes, if I find any I will report back.

FYI I made sure my Sense was fully charged, fresh reboot, had an IP address and said connected to WiFi in the app. It said it would take about 20 minutes but was about 8 to ten, it did reboot after the package was delivered, then the ring completed, then watch face was back, no second reboot.

Looking at the code it updated all apps to January 20th 2022, so they have been sitting on this update for 6 months, still looking into the code more, it does change other code but still investigating... Something in the weather app... It has a different date too June 17th, 2022.

They finally updated the website only to cut and paste wrong version Sense was 5.3 now it is 4.2.3 they crack me up... So insane....

Fitbit OS 4.2.3 (Sense and Versa 3 only)

This release includes bug fixes, improvements, and an important security update. For more information about security updates see How do I update my Fitbit device?

They updated to correct version now:

Fitbit OS 5.3.1 (Sense and Versa 3 only)

VERSION 44.128.6.17

This release includes an update to the Fitbit OS. For more information, see What's changed in the latest Fitbit OS update?

Fitbit Ionic 72.1.15 (recalled), Fitbit Sense 128.6.17 and Pixel Watch 2 BP1A.250305.019.W8, March 2025.

Since I did this update I no longer receive notifications on the watch everything else is OK , I've restarted both my phone and the watch, checked the settings and all seems OK, on the app update they say there's new screens for on wrist calls setup but I can't find any they seem the same to me , any ideas , I emailed the developers but got an email saying there's no email support!

Cheers

Hi@Nickjt - this is more likely related to the bug in the latest version of the Fitbit App than the firmware change.

I wonder if this fixes the fact the Sense is counting heart rate too low  i.e. your HR is at 100, Sense says 90

My screen after update is showing new features ready- Readiness Score (Premium only), Connectivity Indicators and Outdoor Workout Mode (enhance your outdoor workouts by tracking your route, pace, and distance with built in GPS features).

I have a Sense that was supposed to be an upgrade from my previous Versa Lite- the features I wanted were GPS, count steps and pace to track progress.  This Sense has been wildly inaccurate and inconsistent in terms of distance and pace.  I’ve read of the threads and comments about GPS that I could find here, tried all of the recommended steps to “fix” but It’s actually worse now!!  Today the map was showing my regular route which is actually 4.4 miles but Sense showing 3.56 miles (pace obviously much slower than what it really was).  I’ve been testing the results from this Sense to Samsung Health app running on my phone - SH has consistently shows the same map, distance and accurate pace while Sense is random #s.  It’s so frustrating to look at this thing and it shows pace 5 minutes (or more) per mile slower than actual and difference of 2,050 steps counted.

My question is - is the “Outdoor Workout Mode” update supposed to fix this mess of a “fitness tracker” that supposedly had built in GPS?   Do I have a defective Fitbit or was it misrepresented?
*I just don’t understand how this Sense with GPS can show the same path / map but distance off by up to 1 mile but no less than 1/4 mile every single time - never the same distance or close for variance

I’m hoping this fix actually fixes this issue - any thoughts  would be appreciated.  This thing is too expensive to just be some random number generator or guesstimate

I'm having the same problem and it is very frustrating, it's basically removed half the reason I got it in the first place. And the online chat support isn't working either. I've tried reinstalling everything with no luck.  Have any solutions been found yet? Honestly, if there isn't a fix for this issue pretty quick I'm off to Garmin.

I sorted it by uninstalling the phone app and reinstalling a fresh copy from the play store then going through the setup process again. The only problem I have now is charging the thing! 1 of the puns on the lead has disappeared into the lead and it won't make contact easily. Nick TSent from my Galaxy

I've tried all of the suggestions like hard stop, unpaired, Uninstaller then install from playstore, checked for any or all updates to phone or Sense, etc.  These things haven't worked and it's actually ready shorter distance even though same map - I can't understand how far off this is - gps/distance should be constant for same route (very small variance).  I'm starting to look into Garmins or Samsung as replacement after many years with Fitbit 😞

I had that same issue with one of the 4 pins not connecting so it wouldn't charge.  This sense is still under warranty, customer service sent a replacement very quickly.

I really want to love or even like this Sense but this is so frustrating.   Good to know that you were able to resolve the issue - there may be hope for this thing.

That's good to know.  Which model of Samsung do you have?  I didn't realize my Samsung Galaxy phone had the health app pre-loaded until I was researching what I could do to test this Sense accuracy - I'm kind of impressed with that app and the notification information it gives.  I want to love this Fitbit but it's such a letdown and so inaccurate- how does a person track progress?

I attempted to update the firmware on my Sense, it was charging, connected to WiFi, everything. After over an hour of it frozen, I tried to restart it. Now the watch is completely frozen, it will not connect to my phone, and it is completely useless. I have had it since December. Anyone have any idea how to make it work again?

@RedBeard79 Review factory reset sense, it might help? Otherwise contact support, once a firmware starts you should not touch it, and make sure phone and watch are on power and phone does not fall asleep. Otherwise the firmware can fail. Hope you get it sorted.

This update installed on my Sense this morning and now the clock is the only text that appears anywhere. No step count, no date, settings app is completely blank so no resetting anything, even the quick settings icons are gone, just six gray circles. Plus, if this ever does manage to correct itself, it will probably still tell me I've climbed hundreds of flights of stairs this morning. I think I may be done with Fitbit.

@Keslie70

Contrarily to Fitbit positions and what of course stated by the moderators users found out that distance reported by Fitbit is heavily based on steps. In few words GPS is used to trace the map only. It might be that stride is evaluated sometimes, somehow via GPS but it's evident that if the pace is very variable the error might be very large. In fact if you export the tcx and upload to one of the service to analyse the trace (Strava for example) you will find the distance measured via GPS than can be very different than the one reported by fitbit. This algorithm is of course not used when cycling (as no steps are involved).

Users have provided many evidences about this but moderators always ignored the comments and provided the usual scripted reply pretending to misunderstand the comments. It's honestly embarrassing
