Firmware update 6.17...

A new firmware was released, make sure you are on the same wifi as your phone and charging, was a very small package sent to watch... Decompiling it and reviewing changes, if I find any I will report back.

FYI I made sure my Sense was fully charged, fresh reboot, had an IP address and said connected to WiFi in the app. It said it would take about 20 minutes but was about 8 to ten, it did reboot after the package was delivered, then the ring completed, then watch face was back, no second reboot.

Looking at the code it updated all apps to January 20th 2022, so they have been sitting on this update for 6 months, still looking into the code more, it does change other code but still investigating... Something in the weather app... It has a different date too June 17th, 2022.

They finally updated the website only to cut and paste wrong version Sense was 5.3 now it is 4.2.3 they crack me up... So insane....

Fitbit OS 4.2.3 (Sense and Versa 3 only)

This release includes bug fixes, improvements, and an important security update. For more information about security updates see How do I update my Fitbit device?

They updated to correct version now:

Fitbit OS 5.3.1 (Sense and Versa 3 only)

VERSION 44.128.6.17

This release includes an update to the Fitbit OS. For more information, see What's changed in the latest Fitbit OS update?

Fitbit Ionic 72.1.15 (recalled), Fitbit Sense 128.6.17 and Pixel Watch 2 BP1A.250305.019.W8, March 2025.

The most obvious change in the firmware to me since I installed it yesterday is that my Sense finally syncs to my phone reliably again. This has been a huge issue on the Android 13 Beta, where the watch would only stay connected to the phone for 5 minutes max after I rebooted my phone and turned BT off and on. So it's definitely an improvement for me.

I'm still having to restart my phone every so often as it seems to cause a problem with my Bluetooth,  it seems to jam it and the phone won't connect with anything. Plus the watch seems to discharge its battery quicker now , so only getting about 2 days instead of 3.Sent from my Galaxy

Did you fully connect your Sense?

Syncing isn't perfect but it does work. Sometimes it will disconnect and you have to turn off / on Bluetooth.

But otherwise, it's still broken and I don't think the firmware helped at all. When I say fully connect, did you turn on notifications and Google Assistant? The latter breaks the connection as it did before the firmware. I see 0 difference after the update. Otherwise, syncing is fine as long as you don't try to set up anything else.

I haven't had any other bluetooth issues besides my car radio sometimes losing connection briefly, but picking up again after a second or two. My watch actually discharged faster when it was not able to sync than now. It's back to sipping battery. Idk what's different about mine or yours but after the update, my user experience was improved drastically.

Notifications work and show up simultaneously to when the phone shows them, Google assistant also works flawlessly, something I couldn't say a couple of days ago before the update, where it didn't work at all. All features are working perfectly for me again so far. And that change happened immediately after installing the update and rebooting the watch. I didn't have to reboot my phone or toggle Bluetooth at all since then.

Update my end: replacement Fitbit on the way because all support
suggestions have been exhausted and there is no apparent reason why the
unit won't notify of incoming media. Whilst I do really appreciate that as
a solution, I wish that the thing was a bit more reliable, for the amount
it costs!

I have the same problem. I can get calls, but no notifications on my Sense.

My mains lead isn't working and still in warranty,  so rang c.service, they agreed to send new one ....except..they have none in stock BUT if I bought one from their shop they'd refund me!  The guy was very polite but his equipment was faulty he sounded like a cross between R2D2 AND C3PO!  I'm in uk and rang at 10am but was put through to this guy in the US! Must have been 4am or something there! I'm sure not being able to replace my faulty goods under the warranty breaches UK statutory rights! They eventually agreed to send one when they get 1 in stock, but I ordered a spare strap in April...they dispatched it on Saturday after 4 months . .so I won't hold my breath!!Sent from my Galaxy

If you are on android try uninstalling the app , then downloading a fresh one from the Google play store , then when setting up insure ALL permissions are granted/allowed in phone settings, that's how I got mine working again, just need to sort out why the power is draining so quickly now!! Especially as my mains lead isn't working properly  and customer service say they have none in stock to send me, BUT if I buy one from their shop they'll refund me! Yeah right!!! I'm still waiting for a strap that was ordered in April! Good luck!Sent from my Galaxy

I hope this new Fitbit Sense update fixes the issue with premium video playback. I can't play any video or audio from the fitbit app.
Does this happen to anyone else?

The early thoughts on 6.17 are positive on my side.  My ongoing concerns with the heart rate monitor have noticeably gotten better, only 632 days late.

Previously they would post a dedicated pinned thread on firmware updates. Did they just forget this time?

Same for me, I updated to the latest firmware this morning (128.6.17) I walked my exact same route, 4.03 miles, but today it read 3.69.  Pace was off by 1:36/mile also. This is ridiculous!  Hoping they issue a new update soon...

Best Answer

Same - I know my route is 4.4 miles but this Sense keeps coming up with random distances that have ranged from 3.56 miles to 4.05.  Pace is crazy as I'm going showing 20 minutes or more.  How is anyone supposed to actually track real distance,  steps, pace, etc...  I tried to test the Versa Lite, it was closer but still about 1/4 mile off which also impacted pace.  I guess the term "gps" is solely to draw a map and not have anything to do with distance or pace???  In my opinion this advertising having gps to better track distance and pace is SUPER misleading.  If they can't deliver what they sold I'd like out with a refund so I can find something that does what it claims.  This has been so frustrating because this thing makes it look like I'm regressing instead of progressing in my walks no matter how hard I push

Try sending your data to strave that seems to get more accurate,  in the settings link your fibit to strava, its quite a simple process and strava is more accurate Sent from my Galaxy

My sense won’t sync can’t sync hasn’t found blue tooth for 2days with I phone !! So can’t update latest software .
I’ve not heard about the ionic refund either feeling like fit bit is a big let down in the longevity so 18months at the most , very disappointing , and expensive to replace .

Fitbit as a a help link it’s horrible to find an answer. I even went to a chat and still no answer.  What changes are included with this new update. For instance my watch Sense now buzzes on the charger when it’s fully charged. So I can’t charge it at night anymore because it’s annoying and I have to wake up to remove from charger. Give me an answer please

Sorry I can't help, I have a sense also but it doesn't buzz when fully charged, my only suggestion is to go into settings on your phone app and see if there's anything  there to turn off, failing that try the same in the watch settings.
