Fitbit Sense Stuck in Startup Loop

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Back in March, out of nowhere my Fitbit Sense got stuck in a startup loop.

Going through steps mentioned in countless youtube videos and forum posts ranging from pressing / holding the button every which way possible to all the voodoo chants required before startup 🙂 , I decided to get on with my life and purchased an Apple Watch instead.

After being  a long time Fitbit loyalist and using Charge 2 for quite a while, I switched to Sense for over $300 with a lot of excitement and saw it all flush down with only a couple of months of use.

Disappointed is an understatement.

Mine literally did the same thing starting this morning. I think its 3 months old. working on all the options described to get it back up. Already unpaired it from my phone.

I went thru all that to get to the boot loop, becuase the watch is looking for a bluetooth connection. Had to do a force stop on all the apps that use bluetooth. Then the setup process would work.

I tried all the steps but at the very last step, after releasing the button, there is another small vibration in about 10 seconds and then the logo appears in about another 5 seconds - not 12 minutes, and the screen stays with the logo; it doesn't go in to setup mode. So it's still stuck in the boot loop. Am i missing something?

Dear all. After struggling with my sense i found out that there is no opened option to recover device from cycling restarting failure. After all confirmed b fitbit and i got replacement. But question remained why my device failed after almost two years of operation. During discussion with support I was advised to use only approved apps and faces. ????  After all I am for years in development of embedded systems and I ccan recognize that something changed in sense. New firmware update. Obviously they already started to implement google options. Now i am running my replaced sense with approved apps and faces and it works fine. So to all of you. Go and request replacement and after all use only approved apps. In future I will choose other brand as google 24 hour battery supported pixelwatch is not my choice. Sense 2 neither. May be i will ho back to china. Huawai. At final end we need good health options, some well supported smart functions. Stay well and go for it.

I bought a Sense in March this year, and it already died on me with the same startup loop issue. I looked through the forums and nothing worked. I don't even care enough to figure out how to fix it now. It's the 2nd one that died on me.  However, I don't remember how long I had my first Fitbit Watch. I think about 2 years.  But 9 months and then this? I guess I'm done with FitBit. I'll try a Google Watch.  I'm prepared to be disappointed again. lol

Same here! I even purchased some new bands for my watch and it just died just like that! Tried everything and at the end they suggest I buy a new watch giving me 35% off! I think this is going to be my last Fitbit after so many years with them! I do like Fitbit but their quality is not the greatest and I can’t risk getting a watch, especially their most expensive one, that are not repairable and only last a year or so! Quite disappointed with the company!

Mine did this today. I deleted it off my app and my app also had an update. I am adding it back now,  It took awhile but it finally paired and it's currently updating on the watch.   So far so good. All day it's been flashing the logo and vibrating.  I also got a red x and it was having trouble syncing but that quit before I got it to pair.

Delete it off your account and add it back. Make sure your app is updated before setting it back up.

Okay guys, let's do this! Don't skip ahead. I had to do this multiple times before I got it right and if you skip any steps it will mess up and you'll have to start over.

The watch also seems to be getting stuck with the connection to the watch frozen, so you must reboot to kill that broken/frozen connection.

Step 1: Delete your device from your Fitbit app.

Step 2: Disable bluetooth

Step 3: WAIT.... Until your Fitbit device stops auto rebooting. The reboots seem to be an issue with Bluetooth connecting and crashing.

Step 4: Hold the little button down on the side for about 8-12 seconds. You'll see the screen go off but keep a hold of the button until you feel a vibration. As soon as you feel the vibration, release and then immediately press the button again.

Step 4: The screen will come back on for a few seconds and then turn off again. Wait again for the vibration, and then release and then immediately press the button again.

Step 5: The screen will come back on for a few seconds and then shut off again. Wait again for the vibration and release the button. DO NOT press the button again this time and wait for the watch to boot.

Step 6: Reboot your phone.

Step 7: Turn on Bluetooth.

Step 8: Open your Fitbit app and add a device. Add your device like you normally would and let it do all of its updates.

I think the initial button press timing is the hardest, but this worked for me and got my watch going again.

Support team sucks. My Sense keeps scrolling "Download app" and the same useless advice is being given to everyone.

IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!

This just happened to my 15-month-old sense today. Just before a run. It wouldn't start an exercise (just hopped back to the home screen). The "Shut Down" option in settings did nothing every time I tried to select it (just went right back to settings after clicking it). So, I force rebooted it by holding the "fake" button for 10 seconds (RANT: The "fake" button was the worst "innovation" with this watch). It went into a boot loop after that.

I tried these button timing instructions (after doing my run with my 3 year old Garmin instead), but it just kept happily rebooting.

However, what I noticed is the boot loop isn't random. It boots after exactly 10 seconds every time. I don't think it's a coincidence that 10 seconds is the same amount of time you need to hold the "fake" button to force a reboot. Perhaps it was just "stuck down".

I briefly rinsed the watch with regular tap water (yay water resistance) thinking maybe it was sweat or oil from my skin or something causing the capacitive button to be stuck.

That didn't work. So, I dried it and left it to sit for a couple of hours while I worked. Then tried pressing the button a couple of times (not trying any timing thing or anything). Lo and behold it rebooted to a fat red X and a message saying "Data not cleared Sync & try again".

It wouldn't resync so I was stuck resetting it by following these instructions: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Other-Versa-Smartwatches/Data-Not-Cleared-Synce-and-Try-Again/m-p/27...

It installed a firmware update after setting it up. So, I'm guessing that it needed a firmware update all along but never told me/applied it.

Annoying that I had to completely set up the watch again. But, at least it's not a paperweight anymore.

Perhaps the "Shut Down" option will work for me again when this update completes. 😛

Anyway, wanted to post this in case anyone is annoyed trying the button timing voodoo. I feel like the issue might just be a "stuck" button that you have to figure out how to get unstuck (pressing a bunch? Or cleaning?).

Thank you Cseus, this worked! After two days of troubleshooting finding your directions worked. Fitbit should offer you something they couldn’t help us with!

I got it...

Step 1: did this

Step 2: I waited for 1 hour, no autostop ...

Step 3: push the left und upper right button anyway for 8 - 15 secends, the watch will reboot

Step 4: red cross, not synced - reconnected with bluetooth and wlan

Step 5: Firmware Update - everything ist fine...

I hope that helps someone...
