Fitbit data not getting to Strava after Nov 22 update

Strava connection broke after Fitbit's Nov update

For all of 2022 up to Nov, I could do a run or bike wearing my Sense, sync the watch with the Fitbit app on my phone (Android) and it would push, almost instantly, up to Strava.

After Fitbit's Nov 2022 update, this stopped working. I've opened numerous tickets with Fitbit support. (Strava support is clear - the way it's supposed to work is Fitbit sends the data to Strava).

I've reset/redone everything.

Fitbit has had me factory reset my watch, update the app, revoke and re-grant permission for Strava to get my Fitbit data, etc, ad nauseam. I've gone through all the various resets, undo/redo one can imagine for months.

The data are on Fitbit's server

If I do a workout on my Sense and sync to my fitbit app, I can see the data on the Fitbit server (meaning if i go to fitbit.com website and login, my workout is there. It has the gps data - it shows up on the map where I went, it has all the timing data. everything looks good).

But the data don't get sent to Strava.

All of the "help" from Fitbit support seems to be to undo/redo/reset thihngs on my app or watch. But I can't imagine those have anything to do with the issue. Fitbit isn't going to send data direclty from my watch to strava's server, nor even from the app on my phone to strava's server. They are going to send data from their server to strava's server.

Has anyone else seen this?

I post this in the hopes anyone else has gone through this already and figured out the answer. I have invested well over 8 hours on the phone with fitbit and following their advice with nothing to show for it so far except increasing frustration.

There should be evidence in the server logs at Fitbit

Since I can see my data on fitbit's server, I have been asking them to have an engineer look in their server logs and identify which of the following is true

  1. fitbit server is never attempting to send my data to strava (nothing in the logs)
  2. fitbit server is attempting to send to strava, but strava's server isn't responding (e.g. 500 error)
  3. fitbit server is attempting to send to strava, but strava's server is returning an error code back to Fitbit.

I was able to fix this!!!!

I created a new fitbit account and synced the new account to strava and it all worked.

If your fitbit login is a gmail email address it's easy to create a new fitbit account without having to get a new email address. I just added "+fitbitbug" at the end of my email username and gmail sees it as a valid address and just puts the mail to that address in my same account.

I can't believe I wasted 3 months and 10 phone calls to fitbit support. They were zero help, but so glad I decided to try this.
