I am quite sure that prior to the most recent firmware update I had quickview turned on within the app and when my phone was in DND (ie/ when sleeping) the watch face would NOT light up with movement. now that setting seems to do nothing and i have to select motion (auto or none) on the watch itself and it is constantly coming on in the night. is it just me noticing this? is there a way for it to automatically turn off when i'm sleeping or in the movies?? i found it so convenient to just hit DND on my phone

Unless there is a problem quick view in the app, after sync with the watch, enables wrist movement wake. This should not have changed
Swiping the watch face to the right to get to quick settings will allow you to turn on/off wrist wake, Do not disturb, sleep.
During sleep mode wrist wake is disabled, and the watch settings is dimmed.
DND only disables notifications announcing on the watch, not wrist wake.
You can try setting a sleep schedule on the watch, in settings, that should disable the wake at night systematically.
It may also be possible you have a watch face that now wakes independently.

thanks Guy
I'm quite sure that previously when my phone was set to DnD the watch face quick view seemed to be disabled.
I'll just have to try to remember to change my watch settings each day - I'm a shift worker so using the sleep schedule option won't be useful for me.

If it helps my current state is. Phone in DND, quick view enabled in the Fitbit App, watch settings in sleep mode and wrist action disabled.
Sleep mode is enabled on a schedule which has automatically disabled wrist action. At the end of sleep schedule it is turned off and wrist action comes back on automatically.
May be you can have a sleep schedule during the day.
