Make ECG app available in Malaysia-Sense

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I just bought a Fitbit for my mother for the ECG function, but just found out that the ECG app is not available in Malaysia. Is there a plan to make it available here? Why would you sell the device when it is disabled in Malaysia, can I send the device back for refund?

Hi @Jeffrey04 - The info in the Sense Store page lists which countries have approved the use of ECG. You can check it here. It’s updated as more countries approve it. As for your question as to plans for when it could be available, the answer lies with your government. Fitbit cannot activate this feature until the appropriate government agency (such as the FDA in the US) approves it. I’m not sure who you could contact over there. But, you can contact Fitbit Support to ask if it can be returned.

I understand you need approval to release the app, but why are you selling the device in Malaysia without approval the use of ECG, and you marketed sense is superior over versa 3 for this feature?

@Jeffrey04 - I’m just another Fitbit customer so cannot answer for their marketing decisions. You ask a valid question.

Hi Jeffrey. Did you manage to return it? I just bought one unit and also just found out that this feature is not available in Malaysia (after wearing it). There’s even no indication whether it will be available here or not. Such a bummer. And the SpO2 is also not on demand. The Premium features? Meh… should’ve just add few more hundreds RM and get apple’s instead. If I were to get a smartwatch that costs more than RM1k just to track my steps, sleep and calories - I’d be better off buying mi band which is only 1/10th of Sense.

from what I read elsewhere, if you play with the setup a bit, and subscribe to a VPN you should be able to access the ECG

I didn't return it because you probably know returning is complicated... in our country.

I am aware of the SpO2 part, as I previously own a Charge 3 (and currently a versa 3)

only reason i bought a versa to replace my dead charge 3 is because of the decent sleep tracker though (I am also aware of how bad the after sales service is, considering I went through the android 9? sync problem myself and fitbit didn't really offered much help then, you can prolly find the massive thread here somewhere still).

so i contacted support finally

on when to introduce and enable ecg

We cannot provid you a time frame as this depends on your country if they will allow the policy of the feature to be enabled there.

on why sell the device when it is disabled

The Fitbit device have other features that our customers are looking for, thus it is sold.

so fitbit after sales support still suck, they are more interested in selling you product, even though the features they advertise do not work, and would still charge you a premium over them. yes, most local reviewers

it is probably my fault for trusting them again after experiencing the very bad android sync problem years ago, and not knowing the feature is disabled in malaysia before buying

Yup. I’ve got the same response too… this is disappointing to say the least. There’s nothing like “We are pursuing / in the midst” or etc. Basically, they’re just saying “too bad Malaysia is not on the list…”

It's been a while since I last follow up. Any update for ECG in Malaysia? Would FITBIT SUPPORT let us know who is the one holding back? We will chase it for you.

Best Answer

The same can be said.... sorry for being harsh though.. why didn't you check the availability since this info is readily available in their website page on Sense..

well, ECG is being marketed as an additional feature over versa 3, and if they are sold in Malaysia, we assume they support the feature they marketed. Yes, you can blame us for being a fool for not checking at the website, but it wouldn't be too hard for fitbit to explicitly inform us through their marketing channels no?

https://www.lowyat.net/2020/219997/fitbit-sense-versa3-inspire2-malaysia-official-price/ ECG is mentioned

https://amanz.my/2020253636/ ECG is mentioned

https://soyacincau.com/2020/08/26/fitbit-sense-versa-3-gps-google-assistant-inspire-2/ ECG is mentioned

https://www.lofficielmalaysia.com/art/tried-and-tested-why-fitbit-sense-is-more-than-just-a-fitness-... ECG is mentioned (the writer even claimed to have tested it)

All of the websites I listed above are some of the most visited tech websites, and they all mentioned ECG feature on Sense.

They are likely waiting for certification, like Apple Watch did

but no official support is responding to this thread, which is very very disappointing

I am asking who is holding the certification. I can chase for you. Just let me know who?

wouldn't assume "hanky-panky" in this case

likely because it is related to medical use, so they take a bit longer to process so they can have time to measure and stuff (even apple only got their ecg feature approved very recently), or they are understaffed (very likely), in any case, fitbit sense shouldn't be launched here without an approval.

I also write an email regarding this issue for the Medical Device Authority (MDA), Ministry of Health Malaysia. Hope it may approve it soon.

It seems that fitbit themselves need to submit their application to medical device authority malaysia for approval not us. Hopefully that Fitbit can help to send the approval for ecg app to function (Customer service might can help to push fitbit company itself) for the approval. ECG is very important for us to check for artrial fibrilation or abnormal heart rate. I really hope FITBIT can send and submit the approval so that ECG app is available in Malaysia as soon as possible.

do you even understand what you are saying here?

you advertised the feature, and sold the device at a premium over versa 3 for the feature

and you are now saying we have to gather enough votes to enable the feature

if this is not a moneygrab policy, i don't know what is

Best Answer

yes, it is always up to the manufacturer to submit, not end user

and i really hope they did send in the application, but whether or not it gets approved would be subjected to the organization's red tapes

however, our lovely moderator just said we need to gather enough votes, so does that imply they only send in the application after we gather enough votes? or they only do whatever they can after gathering enough vote? I don't understand the point of gathering votes, when the feature is advertised, and the device is sold at a premium over versa 3.

Hi sir, I think ECG is a feature in Fitbit watch itself, but the ECG application still not available in Fitbit Malaysia yet. It needs a formal and proper submission about the application from manufacturer by Fitbit to medical device authority Malaysia for evaluation and approval. I really hope that Fitbit can send the application for MDA , but I guess votes really don't help so much in this case scenario and by the way thank you for hearing out our voices.
