My experience with the Sense

So, I bought a fitbit sense form the google store. At first glance and reading the abilities; I was very hopeful about this device becoming a good fit. I knew that it would not be anything as advanced as my wife's iWatch 6 I just bought her; but I figured it would be perfect for me.

So, here are my issues of the bat:

  1. Today, I have not moved an inch and my fat arse is been sitting all day drinking scotch. Yet, my watch seems to think that I have already walked some 2317 steps and more steps are being added regularly. I am guessing any hand movement accounts as a step. Flexing beers is a whole new exercise not common to most. So, is there a way to make this any more accurate?
  2. I have downloaded the sp02 Clock Face and the tracking app. Perhaps they cannot run together. But no matter what I try; I cannot get either to work
  3. Major issue, if steps are off and monitoring doesn't work; do I just wear this clock while exercising?

These are pretty significant issues. If I cannot resolve them buying a $30 band that counts steps will be a better investment for me.

I mean it is cool and all; but for the price; I would rather find something that actually works.

BTW, I am using Android, otherwise I would have bought my self an iWatch (not trying to start a war here or even try and compare a $700 device to a $300 one; but come on!)

App Version: 3.41.2 (20243568)

firmware: 44.128.417

Any help is greatly appreciated. As I would love for this device to work as advertised. I really do not want to return it.

Not a Fitbit expert just my belief based on being a Sense owner.

Arm movement definitely impacts step count.  You may have seen a commercial where a sports device is attached to a dog's wagging tail?

SP02, to my understanding only records while you're asleep then displays that result sometime after waking.  I'd be more interested in blood O2 while I'm active.

If I'm incorrect hopefully someone will chime in with correct information.

I realize that sums arm movement will cause steps to be recorded, but I remember using a $30 device that was way more accurate. It seems that any movement causes the counter to run. For example, since my post, I now have 3647 steps. And I have not even walked 100 steps total.

As for the SpO2, I agree that during activity would be good. I do understand that night time sleep can help assess sleep apenia. That's great but not sure it is valuable to everyone.

And have wore it 4 times while sleeping. And still not report and it suggests that I have only slept like 4 hours on the past 4 days.

Hopefully, there is a sensor fix it update because at this rate my guesses are better than the watch. Lol. Thanks for responding. Hope I can get them to work more effectively.

I'm pretty sure your device is defective bcoz I have none of those problems. The watch does learn more as time goes on and gets better at determining steps as opposed to arm movement. Give it another week and if it doesn't improve get a replacement. But during that week make sure you walk some so the watch learns out more accurately the machine learning learns

That was a lot of scotch 😂

Try brushing your teath with the hand wearing the watch or pet the dog, and you will get a lot of steps recorded. That aside, it does sound as if your watch is overly sensitive to movements.

I had a Galaxy Watch Active before the sense and it never counted arm movement as steps. In fact it was even smart enough to not count when you get up and walk 2 steps over the grab something off the counter. It only counted steps when your arm moved AND the watch detected forward movement (assume the accelerometer and gyroscope at same time). By using more sensors, I could sit at my desk and shake my arm like crazy and it would count 0 steps. But if I was moving my arm AND forward motion, it counted steps. Needless to say my step count on my Sense is about 25% higher every day now. I honestly expected that this logic for counting steps would be be used by Fitbit but to my surprise, they are still using the same sensor logic from 2010 to count steps. You need more than one sensor to count steps properly. My $30 MiFit band is more accurate because of this.

I have to agree. It's way too pricy for doing so bad when it comes to accuracy...

I had the thought to give it some more time to "get me". But the idea to buy a sport/health watch for 3k, that mostly only track sleepingvalues correct, feels like totally overkill imo...

I'm really starting to regret not getting the samsung one after all...

agree. It has gotten a bit better since first use. However, today so far, I have almost 980 steps. And I really have not taken that many steps. I did take out the trash and I have small little strides; but I am still pretty sure that wouldn't add up to almost 1000 steps. LOL...

Hopefully, they decide to update the software.

I am an IT consultant. So, hand movement for me is very natural and constant. I would love for it to be more accurate.

Thanks,
