New Sense : Not counting swim lengths and distance

Hi there,
I had a Fitbit Sense watch for years and it always counted my swim lengths and distance faithfully.
Recently I broke the screen on my watch and purchased a new Fitbit Sense (not Sense 2) expecting it to have the same functionality.
However, despite having swim settings, it's not counting swim lengths and distance. Other functions of the watch are fine including GPS for cycling.
The Firmware version is 44.128.6.17.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this?
