Hi, @Skyman-uk, welcome to the community, the auto-recognize feature is usually regarded as a plus but you can "manage" it.
From your "Today" screen in your Fitbit app on your phone, touch your icon in the top left corner>activity & wellness>Exercise>where you will find a list of the exercises it auto starts, you can turn them off by touching each exercise>place the slider in the top right in the off position>save (you need to do this for each exercise). Alternatively, you can increase the "more than" timing for each exercise so it will not register the exercise until you have exceeded the set time.
I hope this helps.

That’s great thank you for the information, I can see that auto-recognise function could be great, but on a good walk with my dog, it has rarely auto started, but sat watching tv or having lunch it says I’m doing exercise lol so I will turn off as you suggested and start my exercise when I choose to. 👍
