Sense Notifications - "Notification Service Not Running"

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Looking for some help on this issue. My girlfriend and I both have a Fitbit Sense, however, hers frequently (about every other day) gives the error "notification service not running" and does not receive notifications.

I have checked all the settings from the article here, as was provided to another poster, all her settings are correct and identical to mine (I don't have the issue at all). The only variable is that she has a newer Pixel 4a 5G and I have a Pixel 3, though they are currently running the same OS version, even the exact same build, so it would seem odd if the phone itself was the issue.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @marcus.gif Welcome to the Community Forums! Thank you for the information and troubleshooting steps that you've followed!

In order to set up, sync and use any other features like notifications, the Fitbit App needs to be installed on a compatible phone or tablet. For more information, please visit: Which phones and tablets can I use with my Fitbit watch or tracker?

It seems that your Pixel 3 is compatible but your wife's device doesn't appear in the list. While some features may work, it is possible that some compatibility issues may arise and this is because her phone isn't fully supported.

Our team continues working hard to add more devices based on our members feedback, so my best recommendation is to check back soon on the list to see if her device has been added.

Keep me posted.

I am having the same issue with the Samsung A71. The weird part is that notifications were all working and then suddenly stopped after I had trouble with sync.  I have not gotten notifications in weeks now. So frustrated that a device we paid $300 for has stopped working. Of course it is past the allowed return time frame. Waste of money.

Hello @kwarner61999 Welcome to the Community Forums!

@kwarner61999 I'm very sorry for the experience and thank you for your feedback. The Fitbit app was optimized to work on certain mobile devices to ensure the connection with a Fitbit device, and the performance of its features. I've noticed that your mobile device doesn't appear in our list of compatible devices

Our team is always working to enhance your experience with your Fitbit device and your feedback is a big part of that process. I recommend checking the list back soon to see if your mobile device has been added. Note that we're always working on adding more devices based on our members feedback, so be sure that your comments won't be taken for granted.

See you around!

@WilsonFitbit

"In order to set up, sync and use any other features like notifications, the Fitbit App needs to be installed on a compatible phone or tablet." - Obviously, that has nothing to do with the issue I described.

"It seems that your Pixel 3 is compatible but your wife's device doesn't appear in the list. While some features may work, it is possible that some compatibility issues may arise and this is because her phone isn't fully supported."

So you're telling me that I can expect that Fitbit will only support pairing with mobile devices that are over a year old? The most recent Pixel device you have listed was released in October of 2019, the most recent supported Samsung device is nearly two years old being released in April of 2019.

@marcus.gif thanks for taking the time to share your feedback!

I'm sorry for the difficulties that you've had. I understand where you're coming from about the phone not appearing in the compatible devices list. But at this time, the phones and tablets listed in the link, are fully compatible with Fitbit devices. We're continually adding more devices and I hope your girlfriend's device can be added soon.

@dilip9696 It appears the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 7 Pro are the only compatible devices. As mentioned, it is possible that some features may still work but some other will encounter difficulties and this is because the mobile device you have, isn't fully supported.

Note that Sense Controls might be listed as “Not Connected” in the list of Bluetooth devices on your phone. When you receive a phone call, the controls automatically reconnect. If it doesn't behave this way, it might be related to compatibility issues. But if you would like to give it a try:

To setup Sense controls:

1. From the Today tab in the Fitbit app on your phone, tap your profile
picture > Sense tile > On-Wrist Calls > Start Setup.
2. On your phone, navigate to the Bluetooth settings where paired devices are
listed. Your phone will scan for available devices. When you see Sense
Controls as an available device, tap it.
3. A number appears on your phone screen. When the same number appears on
your watch, tap Pair.
4. Return to the Fitbit app on your phone. Tap Done to complete setup.

Keep me posted.

@WilsonFitbit The issue isn't about one particular phone, it's that no phone released in the last 12 months is on that list. While I can understand not having a phone that is a 1-2 months old, according to that list, Fitbit also doesn't support the Pixel 4XL that was released in October of 2019, or the Galaxy S20 that was released in February of 2020, or the Note 10 that was released in August of 2019.

I'm also not entirely clear on what exactly is the source of the conflict on the 4a 5G since it is running the exact same OS, with the same Bluetooth 5.0+ LE, with the same class of ARM processor. To be honest, it just seems lazy to say that something not working right is due to the phone not being on on that list. There's no logical reason that her Sense connecting to a 4a 5G should be any different than connecting to a Pixel 3.

And if Fitbit doesn't plan on supporting phones that are less than 12 months old I can say for sure that these two watches will be our last Fitbit purchase.

@marcus.gif I understand how you are feeling and take into consideration that your comments won't be taken for granted.

While some phones may have some similar characteristics, there are factors that cause them to not be fully compatible with the Fitbit App. This causes some features to work but some others may experience any other inconveniences and this can only be confirmed once the user has experienced them. Your patience is really appreciated while our team works on adding more devices to our list of compatible devices.

I truly hope the devices you mentioned, can be added to the list soon.

See you around.
