Sense does not identify short naps / snoozes

Looks like Sense identifies sleep periods only when they occur during the "expected" night times:

I felt asleep during unusual (late afternoon) time for at least an hour, wearing my Sense. I wanted to check how many mins i was asleep, but was surprised to discover that nothing was registered. Checking the history of sleep in Fitbit app, i was further surprised that no naps was ever register by sense, eventhough i have had many naps. Looks like Sense identifies sleep periods only when they occur during the "expected" night times.

Hi Jack. I think all devices record sleep when you had minimum 3h of sleep. No watch records naps. I would like to have this feature also because I love quick naps. My only solution to see if I had some rest during my nap is looking at my Heart rate revording. Most of the time when I nap 10-20 min in the afternoon, my HR gets lower than when I'm awake and sometimes it gets even at the lowest level when I sleep at night. By looking at this, I understand that I had a good resting nap. Hope this helps and that fitbit will work on detecting quick naps in the future

@Vic33 the 3 hours is the minimum for seeing sleep stages. For simple sleep reports, 1 hour or more should be detected.

I have had at least one exactly 60 minute nap that was auto detected.

@Jack_LV are you sure that you where asleep for an hour? Fitbit will not record the whole time laying as sleep.

If you still know the start and stop times you can manually add the nap period.

@Rich_Laue you are right in every line. I remember having a recording of a nap that lasted more then an hour. But for the short naps, detection does not exist for now. Have a nice day.

True, but if Fitbit allowed shorter naps, their will be more false sleeps reported. Ive seen several posts where a user watching tv has been reported as sleeping.

For now the sleep start/stop found in the app may be used. Or the sleep may be added after waking up.

My Ionic does naps times, but without the detailed information. I too find that helpful when I am not sleeping well. I am looking at upgrading and came looking to search through the forums.

@katwoman5 as mentioned above for detailed sleep, your nap will need to be 3 hours long. This is the case for every Fitbit model.

It does record afternoon naps. In the picture you will find couple of afternoon naps.

My Versa used to record naps even shorter than 1 hour. I switched to Garmin, and one of the reasons I came back to Fitbit is because of the sleep tracking. I napped for just short of hours yesterday and my fitbit didn't record it at all. I don't mind if it would just record the sleep with any analytics, I don't expect analysis for a 20 min nap, but I would appreciate if it would at least acknowledge it like it used to!

That's not true. I had the IONIC which is now recalled & discontinued. It recorded every nap I had, even 20 minutes.  I don't know why they discontinued the IONIC, it was the best looking & functioning watch they had. Now the only option in an ugly square. They all look the same. I'm not sold at all on the sense if it can't see and record a 20 minute nap. Lame.

The ionic was discontinued when a replacement model was released, then recalled after some users experienced their arms getting burnt.

Fitbit has always said that the minimum detectable sleep is 60 minutes

@forthewatch all of your naps are more then 60 minutes and as expected, have been detected.

Looking at my naps (tracked with Sense) @Rich_Laue is right about length of nap. No nap shorter than hour has been recorded.
