Sense heart rate and calories differ from Versa

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I recently got a Fitbit Sense to replace my aging Fitbit Versa 1.  It seemed the Heart Rate and calorie Burn for Exercises are Drastically different.  To test I setup the Versa 1 on a separate account and have been wearing it on my right Hand while Wearing Sense on my Left.  The Below graphs are for the exact Same Exercise,  Any thoughts on why so Different?

One more, just to hammer the point home.

Same weightlifting workout, three weeks apart: 5/3/1+ Bench Press at 75/85/95% 1RM, 5x10 Overhead Press at 60% 1RM, 5x10 Dumbbell Rows.

Versa first, Sense second:

The last 10 minutes or so on the Sense are because I forgot to end the workout until I was almost home 🙂.

Note that the Versa didn't do well with the Bench Press either, which makes sense. However, the Sense had my HR down in the 60s during those sets, which is laughable. But the difference with the Overhead Press and Dumbbell Rows is pretty stark.

I should mention that a few days ago I did the kludge that someone got from Fitbit Customer Service: Use the web dashboard to manually set your Max HR to 200, and your Custom Heart Zone to 40 lower and 200 upper. This made no difference that I could see.

In any case, now that I'm pretty much resolved to return the Sense and leave the Fitbit ecosystem (the Coros Pace 2 looks promising), I'm mostly just amused at how bad this thing is.

Last month I replaced my versa with sense. From that point onwards, my heart rate is much more than what it used to be on my versa. Resting heart rate increased by 10bpm. To check accuracy, i changed it back to versa for 1 hour. Sense was showing heart rate of 103 which immediately dropped to 88 and then remained around the same. As soon as I replaced it back to sense it went back to around 98. So definitely something wrong with Sense HR

I replaced my 2+ year old Versa Classic SE with a Sense starting Jan 1, 2022. I immediately noticed the reduced values for HR on the order of 25 to 30 percent lower. I opened a case with telephone support who suggested cold re-starting the tracker and monitoring the results. This made zero difference, so I returned to telephone support with some evidentiary numbers, including a workout with the Sense on one wrist and the Versa on the other. Their suggestion this time was to delete the Sense from the phone app and re-add it. This would, of course, would remove all my 3rd party apps and who knows what else in having to restore a basket of parameters and such without a clear level of confidence that this action will have any positive affect on the issue at hand. Considering I had just gone through that exercise in replacing the Versa, additionally needing to look for replacement apps/watch-faces for some that were incompatible in the transition, and all the rest, I am now considering demanding a refund to return the device mainly based on many of the posts in this thread revealing that the HR monitoring performance of the Sense is somehow inexplicably inferior to the nearly 3 year old Versa.

More than a year has passed, I believe, since the Sense was released, but the telephone support response was some drivel about how technology advances forward and results may be different. Therefore, it is unacceptable for me to find there to be documented evidence from multiple sources in this thread that heart rate monitoring on this device is grossly inaccurate, and even more than infuriating that their support organization chooses to effectively hide their head in the sand hoping I'll just forget about this and then buy the next product they squeeze out along with a recurring revenue stream.
