Incredible response. In short any kind of activity, even sitting on a chair and breathing can result in the sense counting it as a floor. I never had the issue with my earlier Charge model. Someday I am told I have 100 floors even though I have been on the same floor all day and just moved from one room to another.

Seems to have been created by a recent update.  Mine worked fine until FitBit pushed out an update that seems to have broken the Stairs algorithm.  I keep thinking they will fix it, but so far they seem to just blame it on wind and cold.  While working from my office I was averaging 20 Floors a day.  Now that I am working from home with one floor to climb, my Sense registers 80 floors or more per day when 5 might be a realistic count.

It is so sad that whay started as agreat product is now so bad.

I just did a chat session with support.  My stairs tracking went crazy after an update they pushed out on 1/11/2021. The support person told me it is a known issue they haven't been able to resolve yet, but that they are aware of it and working on a fix.

Glad to hear that they are aware there is an issue with tracking floors. Right now my floors are ridiculous...counting 50 in less than 2 minutes on some days. I hope this gets resolved soon because it really skews my stats. Wish we could edit the floor data to correct it when it goes bananas like this.

I have had my Sense for a week and so far I have to say it is very disappointing. Over tracking steps, floors, heart rate data seems to be on and off in terms of accuracy, battery life is nowhere near advertised unless your turn all the features off (I get 2.5 days). Really crossing my fingers that a software update fixes these things soon but seeing as they still don't know how to fix the issue with the stairs, I am concerned.

Agreed, my Sense continues to loose connection multiple times a day to my phone as well, so far by far worst Fitbit reliability ive ever had and first time since I became a Fitbit supporter with the Force I am looking elsewhere for future devices. Guessing has to do with take over and now customer product service isn't as important as advertising selling more.

I have the same issue. Also it turns out I've become quite the atlete, doing 10k steps a day, and either running my staircase at home like mad, or not... Even though I have to use it every time I go out. Also the "stress" and the "bodybattery" funktion, that they advertised about is a big disappointment. I can run my body to the ground, and it still says I'm as happy and good as a chipmunk....

Most likely why Fitbit isn’t doing anything about fixing the Sense steps problem, https://twitter.com/androidcentral/status/1394779857217802247?s=21

I just bought the sense this week. We have 15 stairs in our home that I go up regularly. (8 times this morning), and my sense says 2 flights total. I had the One until 2017 when I quit wearing a Fitbit altogether. It did a great (accurate) job tracking my steps. I am not sure how technology can get worse for tracking something that was simple on the Most basic Fitbit. Why is there no way to edit that in the app?

Can not say why we don't have an option to edit, but I can say that the developers have not added an option.

Over the last 3 years, 46 people have requested the option to add stairs. Start advertising and get a few thousand more votes, we may get the attention of the developers. However fitbit never stayed that every suggestion will be added.

The good news is that floor counting has never been used in the calculation of any other days. It is simply to unreliable, since it depends on an extremely small change in atmospheric pressure. Their are too many other reasons for the atmosphere pressure to change.

I get the whole unreliable, atmospheric pressure changes askew the floors climbed and I'm ok with those anomalies.

What you're not understanding that Fitbit introduced a bug back in December's (almost 6 months ago by the way) firmware update that broke either the algorithm behind how it counts floors, broke the altimeter/barometric sensor or something else.  We're just asking to fix the bug they introduced, nothing more.

If floors count isn't reliable, then stop awarding badges for floors climbed and remove the metric from the weekly report.

This was just in the last week:

I wonder if the merger is an incentive to discourage people from keeping the Fitbit and leading the clients to purchase a new tracker from a Google Samsung Fitbit collaboration?

Inaccurate stair counts is no longer something I have to worry about because my battery is now dead despite following all guidance from Fitbit and the community.  Less than 5 months and its a dud that can't even tell time.

Just curious if anyone who received a replacement Sense is having the same problem with the new watch?  So far, my new one hasn't caught the *bug* yet.

Sadly, yes. After a month or so my new Sense started behaving like the old
one. 85 floors today in my single-story world. Worse, Fitbit support no
longer cares to do anything.

I received a replacement Sense in April because the one I got in December started doing the crazy Floor counts after about 2 months.  The replacement has been fine until about a week ago when it started showing floors when I wake up, again.  In due time, I'm sure the Floor counts will escalate like the first one did.  The most disappointing part of all this is Fitbit is not addressing this problem at all.  As you look at how long this has been going on and at all these comments, I've really lost faith in the product and I've been wearing them for about 10 years now.  If I could get a refund on this, I'd take it and get an Apple.

I do suspect the merger and new future Google Samsung FitBit collaboration has something to do with it. It doesn't feel like they're putting adequate support and updates into the Sense. Six months of no new firmware update and no recognition of the issues is just sad. Any new WearOS/FitBit watches are still quite a ways out and I'd like a working one now, please.

@primortal apparently you missed the reason for my post, I simply was answering the, un-answerable question as to why stairs are not editable.

Do you really think that asking fitbit users for an answer to what the fitbit developers are thinking will get an adequate answer?

Yes very few users have felt the need to edit their stairs and why this request hasn't been looked at yet. If you are looking to have the ability to edit stairs, we need more v

My post has nothing to do with the current logic in the firmware bug, I simple was answering one very short question about editing floor counts.

However I will address your point about added awards for false stairs. Editing stair counts after the fact will not remove a badge.

The user will need to contact fitbit to get the false badge removed.

@downandout nope, Google simply wants the mega data from fitbit, and access to the trchnnology. Fitbit has profit Ed from having access to the newly acquired wealth.

@chelseabelle it is a firmware(software) issue, not a hardware issue.

We are hopping it will be fixed with the next way over do firmware release.

Completly agree with you, it is supposed to be the premium product, so they will redo the charge 4 update freeing all the sense features (except ECG) like for example adding Blood pressure, or they will let die the product with all its buggs like they do for about 6 months .... what a shame for a company like this to abandon its premium customers, at least they have the power to go somewhere else.

Woohoo, thanks Fitbit for inadvertently allowing me to get the Shooting Star badge,

I couldn’t have done it without a bug in your almost 6 month old firmware that you refuse to acknowledge or fix.
