Since the most recent update, my Sense has been incredibly inaccurate in counting floors. The count has been way over each day.

And what is the problem with that?

I am walking all day at my workplace, on a flat surface, do not climb any stairs, and my Fitbit says that I climb dozens of floors every day.....

Can we have some updates regarding a fix for this VERY VERY annoying behavior from a Fibit representative?? Seriously... this is not acceptable for such a device and company!

I had the issue with the charge cable pins for a bit and w/o any battery charge my Fitbit was providing as accurate a stair count as when it was charged.

With a brand new cable I purchased (to avoid the delays dealing with customer service and spending money on return shipping) I was finally able to update to the latest s/w version.   For the first full 24 hours I was getting reasonably accurate stairs and steps but totally lost sleep and SPO2.

Then the stairs started going crazy again - walking 40 to 60 steps to the bathroom in a bungalow and registering 6, 8 or 12 Stairs from one day to the next.  After about 4 days finding nothing on their website that was any help and almost desperate enough to call customer service both sleep and SPO2 came back.

So things are back to Fitbit normal:  some things work reasonably well and others are highly suspect.  Currently at 20 Stairs which is 10X's actual.

I'm at lost

I had a similar experience after the latest firmware update. As I reported earlier, the update fixed my stair count for several days. Then it slowly started getting out of whack again. Now it's back to being as bad as it ever has been. I did not experience the problems you had with sleep and the SPO2 though.

"your watch may give you credit for extra floors while doing everyday tasks such as opening doors, driving, AC, or riding elevators or escalators, or from abrupt weather and atmospheric pressure changes. Exposure to excess moisture can also result in extra floors."

In other words it's a badly executed a piece of junk.

Truth, jibal. I went back to using my Versa 2. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but everything works as it is supposed to.

Removed floors/stairs from being monitored in the app. Why bother if its totally inaccurate...

Unfortunate several bugs have reared its ugly head for us Fitbit users. Totally enjoyed my first Versa and kept it for several years. That thing just kept on working and working right!

Expected the Sense to perform better than the first Versa. In many aspects, it does, yet with all the additional features, the jury is still out.

Thankfully, at this time of posting, my Sense is performing well, with the floor/stairs counting removed from the app. Seeing the inaccurate floor count bothers me, so elected to remove it from daily stats in the app.

Yep it still broke, 6 months and counting.

It's like they have one developer for Sense that works a half day once a month.

Even the altameter on a plane needs to be calibrated several times during the average flight.

Your watch measures changes in air pressure to determine floors. Basically it is looking for a change in pressure equivalent to a 1X2 inch piece of paper.

Some buildings have negative or positive pressure, opening a dope with one of these could result in a false stair.

Wind blowing into an open window, could increase pressure, when the wind stops, again a possible floor added.

Wind blowing across a an open window could cause a lowering of air pressure in a house. Let's say the tracker is on the leeward side of the arm on a windy day. Yup you got it, another possible floor. The problem is with technology, but none of this explains why since last Novembers firmware floor count has been off

It also seems to count floors if you burp, turn your head or sit very still.

A very discouraging solution: disable any function that doesn't work as advertised.  Could not consider that for charging or lack of SPO2 data.

All well and good but I live in a sealed house.  Walking from my bedroom to the bathroom (anywhere from 20 to 60 steps according to Fitbit) I can record as many as ten floors.

I could accept one floor for getting out of bed and one for sitting on the commode but those actions don't record a floor.

No one has opened a door in my house and all the windows are closed at that time of morning (allergies).  So no changes in air pressure of any kind.

At the moment I have registered 101 floors.   I can account for 6 actual floors.  And that is with only 5K + steps.

I have been receiving promotions for Luxe and it just makes me laugh - and not a happy laugh.

If I spent almost $400 on a radio only to find it played only AM and could not register a station on FM I would expect a straight out exchange.  If the company knew they had sold a faulty item and did nothing I would be very upset.  If, like with the Sense, there were a number of issues (some very serious) a company ignored the issue and moved on to promoting new products while ignoring existing clients I would have nothing to do with them ever again.  And I'm stuck with not just a Sense I cannot trust but also a paid subscription to Premium.  Meanwhile my wife is happy with with her Fitbit Charge and the "limited" but working functions .

The stairs worked fine on my Versa and Versa 2 (and Sense until December 23). It's disappointing the firmware update didn't fix the issue. This is supposed to be a premium watch, but I wish I hadn't given away my Versa 2. I've also decided the premium features are not worth it.

I've resigned myself to hiding my stairs stats and contacting support every few weeks for an update. I'll let it be well documented that my Sense isn't working right.

I am interested if this over-counting of the floors influences the reported calories.

No @AlphaState the calculation of calories has never looked at the floor count. Probably because there are to many ifs, even when it works perfectly.

Yes, it is still there. Recent tweets with support yield (basically) we
know it is broken and it won't be fixed soon.

Same here, floor count are excessive and I live in a one-story apartment with no floors, yet the floor count kept on rising.

Just removed the floor metrics from my dashboard. Lessens feelings of frustrations.

Accomplished all the usual steps in troubleshooting, i.e. restart the watch, uninstall/reinstall the app, factory reset the watch, ensured that app and firmware are the latest versions, disconnect/commect bluetooth, etc...still inaccurate floor count.

What's the use of having an inaccurate metric amyway?

Best Answer

The point of including a metric in a watch, even when it doesn't work, is to entice people to purchase.

For some it may be the deciding factor (tracking how floors taken at work say or someone training for events).

So for Fitbit the Stair metric did work, and likely quite well.

For people who spent a ton of money to upgrade from a workable Fitbit or who chose Sense over a different tracker/Smart Watch, it did not work out quite so well.

But the logic of having to remove something you paid for, regardless of the relative important it holds for you, as the only solution to a problem should not be acceptable.  It might be if it was a cheap child's toy, but the Sense is definitely not that.

And when considered in combination with battery and charge cable problems the issue speaks to the overall quality and dependability of a Fitbit product especially the Sense.

Was the Sense sinmply an audition piece for the sale of the company to Google, resulting in poor QA/QC customer be **ahem**ed?

Or is the Sense an example of the poor quality to be expected from Google products?
