Sense isn't tracking sleep data

My new Sense is not tracking my sleep at all.  Just 1 day out of 3 days.  It is setup on my dominant wrist.  What can I do to get it to work.  I still have an ionic, that I would love to use for work only and Sense on other occasions.  How can I get this to work.  So basically both watches on my dashboard

I am having problems with my Fitbit Sense not recording my sleep correctly. I went to bed around 10:30pm and woke around 5:40am. My Sense watch recorded sleep from 11:00pm to about 1am then another  block recorded from 3am to 4am. This split blocks then ends up showing up too short to give detail sleep information or giving a sleep score. This has happened several nights so far since upgrading from my Verse.

My full sleep data (REM, Sleep Score, etc.) is not recording. The basic data is  (time asleep). I know if have it tight on my wrist because there's indentations there and also it's a good two or three finger lengths above the wrist. Any ideas? The strap actually digs into he wrist more than it should I think, but I did tighten it so that hopefully it would record the full sleep data. (I do sleep on my stomach, but for several days it recorded ok, but once again is inconsistent.  Thanks for the help.

Hi @Frenchy55, @SunsetRunner and @Burkmere. Welcome to the Community Forums.

Thanks for sharing that your Sense isn't tracking your sleep details correctly, and for every step tried prior to posting. As you may know, your watch will provide you with sleep stages and sleep scores based on the heart rate data recorded when sleeping. However, there are a few factors that may prevent you from receiving this data:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your watch from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed).
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your watch's battery is critically low.

If the issue persists even after making sure of those conditions, please try performing a restartwear your watch higher on your other wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone) to sleep and sync it once you're awake to check your details.

@Frenchy55, in regards to your other question, because your Sense and the Ionic use the Fitbit App Gallery, the Fitbit app won't allow you to have both of them in the same Fitbit account. If you want to continue using both of them, you'll need to remove one of your watches and set up the other one every time you want to switch.

I'll be around, let me know how it goes.

Hi LizzyFitbit,

I am having the same issue.  My Sense doesn't track sleep at all.  I have tried the steps in your note, but nothing seems to work. What is really frustrating is that because of this, it doesn't track blood oxygen saturation so I am not getting this information at all.  I was using a Garmin Fenix which detected my sleep without fail.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Having the same problem.  I know that I sleep better than Sense measures

Hello, Frenchy55--

I am sensible. My sense does track sleep somewhat, but my sleep is intermittent through the night and my Sense doesn't track all of it.  Did you ever solve your problem, and how?

Hi,

I never fixed the problem myself. First my Sense keep unpairing, same for
Sense Controls. Every days I have to pair again for both.. Sometimes more
for my Sense Controls

Thank you for your response. For my Sense, customer sevice told me to get to "settings" on the Fitbit.com website, find the sleep settings. Mine was set to "sensitive", and I am going to try "normal". They said that might work.
Regards, sensable

Mine is set to normal. But my problem is that the Bluetooth sometimes gets
unpaired. Sense Control a lot more off during the day. It can't seems to
keep the Bluetooth paired

Sorry, I am not familiar with that problem. Thank you for replying though. Sensable

I went to normal, too.  It didn't help.  I'm going back to my Versa 2.  Maybe this one will still track my sleep.  I have had no trouble with bluetooth with my Versa 2 or my Sense.

@sensable

The Bluetooth has nothing to do with your sleep tracking; it only sends the data from your Sense to your Fitbit app. Have you opened the today app on your Sense to see if your sleep stats are there?

Thanks for your response. My Fitbit app shows no sleep data at all. There may have been less than 3 hrs sleep, so I wouldn't get sleep type, but it recorded nothing at all. My Versa 2 would record sleep periods less than 3 hrs at least--my Sense won't even give me that.

I have tried all these “fixes” and I still have this problem: since using new Sense, sleep times have large gaps and one morning showed “sleep” period well after I was out of the bed.  One night seemed correct but recorded “sleep” for a short period after I was out of bed.  Useless to me in present condition.  Help!  Thanks

sensible--I am still using my Versa 2, returned my Sense because it was no better.  I haven't fixed anything.  I think my Versa 2 understates my sleep, because if I actually got the small amount of sleep it records I would be dead or something.  I have Restless Leg Syndrome, and I think my legs move while I'm sleeping--and the Fitbit must think I'm awake.

Hi Sensable. I think you just nailed my problem. I have been having trouble getting sleep data also, using my Sense. It's spotty and sparse. Nights I thought I've been sleeping show nothing or much less than the time I'm in bed--allegedly asleep.I have mild apnea, so that could be what is keeping my sleep from going deep or to REM as much as it should. But, even the CPAP machine doesn't seem to keep me deep or dreaming. I also have considerable leg movement which has shown to keep me awake and in shallow sleep as recorded on 2 formal sleep tests. Any progress on your issue?

No, I contacted customer support again and again, being told to try the sane things again and again and while I might get a few nights of complete sleep data, the problem never went away. I finally insisted that my Sense be replaced under warranty. I was given a “return number” and sent the watch in about ten days ago. I have heard nothing and hope no news is good news and a replacement Sense is on it’s way to me. As an aside, I went to Europe for three weeks, and although I finally got a wifi connection to get the correct day/time info, sleep and health data just stayed confused the whole trip.

Well, not really. I don’t think that the sleep data is always correct. I am pretty sure that the Fitbit will record that I’m awake when my legs are moving even when I actually sleep through that—if it’s mild. Overall, I don’t trust the sleep data very much.

I also sleep on a Sleep Number mattress that records sleep. It is uncanny how well they track WHEN the Sense is working properly. I know, too much data, but……..
