Even putting the phone in my pocket causes Sensa to lose connection. Is anyone aware of a fix or is this a known flaw?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @norman.prather.
Thank you for informing us about the difficulties you experienced with your Fitbit Sense.
Please make sure that Power Saving Mode or Battery Saver is turned off on your phone. This mode frequently causes the device to disable Bluetooth.
If your phone is managing multiple Bluetooth connections simultaneously, the connection with your Watch might not work properly.
I would recommend performing a restart by following these steps.
Hope this helps.

I have the exact same issue. My Sense is about 2 years old and has been working reliably until recently. BT connection is very weak and I literally need to have the watch beside my phone for it to sync. Tried all the remedies: ensure f/w and s/w are up to date, unpair and re-pair BT, reinstalled Fitbit App, reset Sense to factory ... and none of these measures make any difference. I believe the BT receiver is beginning to fail on the watch. Even the wifi strength is weak compared to my wifes Versa - I am literally sitting beside our router.
Have I reached the expected life expectancy of this watch? My daughters 2.5 year Versa also experienced similar issues including degraded battery performance lasting only 24hrs. Unfortunately this is not a good track record for Fitbit.
