I have had my Sense for less than a month and it is already not auto recognizing my exercise. For the amount of money I paid for this I am highly disappointed. Until 2 days ago it was auto recognizing my walks on the treadmill as "elliptical". 2 days ago it started not tracking my exercise. It tracks the active zone minutes with no problem, but no exercise. When I try to log it manually after my workout is finished it takes 1,000 of my steps away. I've just decided not to log it because I work hard for my steps goal. I've searched the articles on the community and I've done everything the person from Fitbit suggested. I need other fixes because this is ridiculous. For a smart watch that is $300 it is really not okay that the features are not working as advertised. Fix this or I guess I'll choose another brand for my smartwatch. I don't want to waste anymore money if it's not going to work....I also had this same EXACT problem with my previous Fitbit Versa Lite.

HI @Nvy_Wfe07,
The auto-recognition works when you have your heart rate above a certain BPM (I forgot exactly what the threshold is) for 10 min. or more. The Sense should be able to pick up your exercise from there.

I believe auto detect is set to 15 minutes go into setting in the app and switch it manually to something like 8 minutes.

Hi DramaQueenDiva,
I use my treadmill for 45 minutes and my BPM is well over 100 for almost the entire time. I don’t think that’s the issue. Last time I used it my BPM was 145. That should be high enough, correct?

I have been having the same exact problem for a long time now, ever since I got my Sense and made all the tweaks to it and figured it out, likely around December 2020. I can even go in and see all the Zone information which proves how long I was above the heart rate and for how long, and I lowered the threshold to count for interval training as well so the shortest possible time for heart rate in the Zone with the longest possible time for it to drop out of the Zone as well (I have Sinus Tachycardia and a bunch of other health conditions so I need to tweak these sorts of things). The activity periods show up as "Moderate Activity" or "Intense Activity" but the Sense doesn't auto-recognize the exercise itself even though it will count steps, for one example. So it will count it in the Zone section in the App as an "Activity" which doesn't carry over to the Dashboard because that is its own unresolved issue, but it won't auto-recognize the activity as "Walk" or any of the other auto-recognizable activities.
I would like to add that inputting my exercise information to the Dashboard manually is the only thing that causes the exercise to show up on the App which is necessary for tracking besides "Moderate Activity" or "Intense Activity" when I am not intentionally exercising so wouldn't go into the Fitbit Sense itself to start an exercise mode manually (again, health conditions that need monitoring: it's why I chose the Sense in the first place). However the entire process is exhausting, very time consuming and overly complicated, and requires multiple windows, the app, and calculations in order to complete. That issue / missing "feature" is listed here and needs more requests I believe from TPTB in order t...
This is a workaround I have found, but it is in no way something I would suggest for someone who doesn't really know how to do it or have the time to invest in it. This is something Fitbit needs to fix.

Has this issue been resolved for you? My sense is giving me the same issue. It hasn’t recorded any of my exercise activity since mid February and all of the settings are the same, my workouts haven’t changed and I’ve done the reset on my fitbit as well but that didn’t fix anything.

I am having the same exact problem. I spent a while trying to like log my exercise. It doesn't track mine at all. I was on my elliptical for over 30 minutes. Heart rate 140 or higher the entire time. When I try to start a workout on my app all I get is an option for a run. I can't even select elliptical or weights. On my Samsung app I can?? I'm thinking my Samsung watch was better. I switched because of all the good things I've heard about fitbit, but I am not impressed.

I have been having the same issue recently and I'm about ready to explore other options.
