I've had my Sense since June and the auto recognize walking feature worked fine until yesterday.
I've had several walking sessions all over 30 minutes in length and the auto recognize was turned on and set at 15 minutes. The majority of those minutes logged moderate activity or cardio levels. All Steps, Calories, Distances, Active minutes, and Zone Minutes were logged in the Sense and the Iphone app but the Sense did not classify it as exercise.
I have restarted the Fitbit, logged out of the app on the iphone, logged back in, turned off the auto recognize, logged out and back in, turned it back on and even set it for 10 minutes. After countless restarts of both the phone, app, and fitbit it still does not recognize the auto recognition of the walking even after 20 minutes.
My iphone app is up to date and was last updated Sept 21st, my Sense firmware version is 44.128.5.49 and it has 2,554 MB of memory left. The only app that was added was the SP02 app when I bought it and the SP02 clock face.
I use the auto recognition because the walk exercise function when I select it on the Sense tends to restart my Fitbit after 10-12 minutes which throws off the numbers and I don't require a GPS map of my route.
Now the only way I can log exercise is in bits with the exercise app.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue besides the common, log out, log in, restart everything suggestions that have not worked?

Have you checked your auto exercise settings in the app?
Tap exercise from dashboard.
In the top right tap the setting cog.

Yes, I turned it off during a restart / reboot / sync session. Turned it back on and no luck, even reset it from 15 minutes to 10 in the hopes that it would force a re-save of the settings and start the auto recognition again. I have even tried unpairing and repairing the Sense even though everything else works and logs fine.

Have you tried reinstalling your device? I had issue and contacted customer service. This is always their troubleshooting “go to”. I had a similar issue but I was doing an indoor “walk” “march” on the spot. Nothing was recorded yet in exercise for the day. My steps were recorded and do were my zone minutes. According to customer service it record my “walking/stepping” as elliptical. I didn’t have auto recognize on for an elliptical as I don’t have one. Turned it on to auto and it recognized my “walk” but records it as elliptical. I may be worth a try to turn all the auto recognize activities on. You never know how Fitbit will record your activity. Hope this helps.
