Sleep Measurement is Erratic and Disappointing

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have been a Fitbit user for around a decade - having used Surge, Ionic and (since September 2021) Sense.

I am extremely disappointed with the erratic measurement of sleep by Sense.

Just a few instances:

1. On one day, it shows me going to bed at past 1 a.m. I have not been to bed after midnight for several years. Most days, I am asleep by 11 p.m. And I invariably sleep fairle soundly for the first couple of hours. And the Sense shows me beginning my sleep past 1 a.m.

2. On a Sunday, I did not wear the Sense for a couple of hours in the morning - from around 9:30 a.m. to around 11:30 a.m. And the Sense showed me sleeping during those two hours.

3. On the earlier versions, the quality of sleep data normally corresponded with what I felt. With Sense, I often get readings that do not match with my sleep experience.

What could be the problem?

How long have you been experiencing these inaccuracies? If it's been recent, like the last week or so, I would do a shutdown and power back on. That tends to fix some of the monitoring issues.

I've found my Sense sleep tracking to be very accurate since using it December 2021 but I have done a restart every now and then. My usual issue is being unable to log my water intake with my Sense.

I have been having this problem for several months. As suggested by you, I shall do a restart and hope it works.

Thank you for your help.

Keep doing the restart but still have significant problems with recording sleep. I find that the Sense, despite being the latest model, is the most disappointing. I did not have these problems with the Surge and the Ionic.

It also has problems on the 'walk' front. I walk exactly the same route every day that I walk, yet on some days, i am shown as having climbed three stairs, while on other days, it is shown as one stair.

This is not one expects from a top-of-the-line model from a company owned by Google.

I thought that Google's ownership would lead to a better product. What we have got is a better looking product but a worse performing product.

Sad

@FitbitUser1112 The floor count is definitely pretty inconsistent..

FYI. The Sense came out long before Google officially acquired Fitbit.

The operative word in your mail is "officially". The takeover had been in the works for much longer., so one thought the Fitbit would be spurred to reach greater heights.

Anyway, the main point is that this top-of-the-line Fitbit product it does not record sleep well (a couple of days ago, it shows me going to bed at 2:30 a.m., while I very rarely go to bed past 11 p.m.) Also, the stairs count is an issue.

Is it possible that the Sense I have is a defective piece? Is there any way to check?

@FitbitUser1112 Google hasn't done anything with Fitbit whether it was officially or unofficially under them. The only thing that's been gained is Google Assistant.

If you've done all the troubleshooting options like deleting and adding it on the Fitbit app, shutdown and turning back on, restarting your phone, and even a factory reset (which mods say save for customer service to tell you), then you should try customer service. Out of all the things the Sense doesn't do great or accurate, Sleep tracking is the one thing that it should do well all the other Fitbit devices. All my sleep starts and ends are within 5 minutes of the last time I looked at the clock and the first time I look when waking.
