Spotify control doesn't work if Fitbit app is closed

So I have my Fitbit Sense synced and downloaded with the Spotify app. I’m able to control the music from my Fitbit band fine. But when I close out my Fitbit app on my phone, I lose all connection to the Spotify controls on my band. Is there a way to fix this?
