@SunsetRunner your sense has a touch screen. You want to touch with the same touch used when typing on the phone.
Just do a light touch, any sliding of the finger will be detected as a swipe and will not activate the screen.
Agree. I can't work out how to wake it up exactly at all. Sometimes I need to touch it 4 or 5 times in quick succession - I have tried all sorts of combinations including just a light touch as suggested below. It's completely sporadic in how to wake it up. I've disabled Quick View. Would really like some help on it!

It's the inconsistency that's the issue. In my testing there was one time I tapped 55 times before it worked. Other times it worked first time. I'll rely on Quick View or the button.
I thought this was an intentional change with the new OS, I read that the only way to "wake" the device is to press the button or to raise the device. reviewers have said as a complaint they can no longer tap to wake, they have to raise their arm or press the button. i just got mine and i'll play around to confirm, although it's plugged in and charging and preliminarily it would appear to be the case. tapping the screen doesn't appear to do anything, i have to press the button.
If this is an intentional design change then we need a feature request to have a setting to allow you to tap to wake if preferred.
I literally just had to tap it twenty times to get it to wake up. Once it’s awake, if you leave it to go back to sleep, you can then touch it once and it will wake up straight away - it’s when you leave it go a sleep for a longer length of time - that’s when you need to start repeated touch. I even tried a factory reset just now and changed back to the standard watch face and it’s still exactly the same. This is clearly some sort of bug that needs a fix.

@bobby2478 there's a comment in the manual that says:
"When you set screen wake to automatic , the screen turns
on each time you turn your wrist. When you set screen wake to manual, press the button or
tap the screen to turn on the display. "
I've tried on both automatic and manual and have the same issue.

Just tested this on a Versa 3. It was an issue there too
Best Answer@SteveH now I see what you mean. I got it charged and setup and sometimes it responds to a tap (single or double), other times it does not. I notice if I first press the button/raise my arm to wake the device, then press the button to turn off, then if I tap the screen it responds right away. If the screen has been off for awhile however (several minutes) and then I tap the screen it seems to not always respond. Has that been your experience as well?

Same issue. Works fine after the watch was just on but after 1-2 mins it appears to be I. A deeper sleep and it could take 50 taps on ever part of the screen before it comes on... if it does. Tried tapping the watch band and corners like other suggested. All work fine when watch was recently active but again issue once off for longer time. I may return my watch just for this. Very inconvenient. My index finger is sore from violent taps and thumb from the awkward pressure I need to put to push the “button”. Really wanted Fitbit to work.
