Why can't fitbit automatically track sleep/wake, like it does for every other activity? Want.

Something I've found with my Flex is that it doesn't want to go into sleep mode if it's being held vertical, no matter how much I tap. Hold my hand horizontally and it goes into sleep mode no problem. However, particularly bumpy shopping carts can also trigger sleep mode, and sometimes I toss and turn enough that the Flex thinks I'm trying to check its status and lights up...it feels so much brighter in a dark room when you're trying to sleep.

Well, nearly two years after the message that initiated this thread, "automatic" sleep tracking was introduced.
The fact that it doesn't work at all on an iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S with our Flex's will have us looking for an alternative sleep/activity tracker.
I'm a pilot and I gauge work performance capabilities on my sleep which is nowhere near as easy as it has been for the last two years since we installed the "Update".
Adios fitbit....

When the sleep mode is turned on, to check to see if it is actually on, go to your tracker and press the button, like you do, when you go to check your stats, if the information is flashing, then the sleep mode is activated.

Both my Flex and my wife's Flex are totally unusable since FitBit "Upgraded" the software to auto-sleep.
We've tried every suggestion without anything working.
The Flex's tracked sleep perfectly for more than two years WITHOUT having to spend a LOT of time editing and trying suggested go-arounds on a daily basis, multiple times a day.
This "Upgrade" is the most moronic move I've ever seen a manufacturer employ.
I just wish Christmas was still a few months away rather than recently past as we could probably recoup our purchase expenditures on the Flex's by getting rid of them on eBay....
AND: Do ANY of you moderators report anything to FitBit corporate or are you just here as a hobby?

I just received a Charge for Xmas, and have been wearing it since opening the box. I have been impressed how accurately it tracks sleep. It accurately logs when I go to bed, when I wake up, and when I get out of bed.
I am a very restless sleeper and wake up many times during the night. In my case, after the first night, I set the sleep tracking to sensitive and found it to be much more accurate. It's just an electronic device making calculated guesses based on movement.

The Charge and the Charge HR should track sleep automatically. No need to "put" it into sleep mode. In the morning simply sync with the Fitbit App on your phone. Then go check out your sleep for the night in the App.
I found that it works very well for me.
