few questions about the surge
How accurate is the GPS and do u still have to input stride length for runs/walk
i have the charge HR which is way out on the distance and before i bite the bullet for an expensive tracker would love reviews.
i do currently use the garmin forerunner which is excellent but all my friends have the fitbit and weekly challenges also the banter is good but just want to see if the surge is worth buying

@douglass they are pretty close to each other. Here are two screen shots of the distance from GPS.
Fitbit Surge:
Garmine Forerunner 620:
Obviously the accuracy of the GPS depends on many factors but in my experience they haven't been too far off. The Garmin I use is also one of the highest models in the Forerunner series, I see they just came out with a 630, so I'd expect it to be a little more accurate overall.

You can expect Garmin to be more accurate:

You will lose a lot of training and other features if moving from Forerunner to Surge. The Surge activity tracking is very basic. The elevation charts are still basically broken a year later. No interval training, no swimming with it, etc, etc.
For the occassional step competition with friends, I use my iPhone 5s as my Fitbit tracker using the Fitbit "MobileTrack" feature. Works great as my phone is usually in my pocket. Even better I get step credit while pushing a shopping cart (Flex, Force and Surge don't), and while riding my bike or spinning (phone in back jersey pocket, or gym shorts).
A bunch of phones support MobileTrack:
Right now I'm at 145,153 steps for the last 7 days, so friends don't ask me to join very often 😉
