Biking/Walking: Surge, Blaze + Strava/MapMyRun

When I walk/run downtown and use Strava (iphone6s), the gps data is completely inaccurate, sometimes reports 40mph speed peaks; because, I suppose, the gps signal is bouncing on skyscrapers; or some other form of inaccuracy (bug?); when I use mapmyrun on the same device, it's absolutely flawless (but has a lot of ads).

Now I'm serious about it, so I have to either buy mapmyrun or get a surge to achieve similar results; but I wonder, how is the gps accuracy with the Surge in cities with skyscrapers? Or do you recommend a Blaze + mapmyrun, but that's another device to carry...

Thanks!

Hello @jibanes, good to see you in our community. I saw your post its been here for a time, so let me share some ideas, although I noticed another user already provided you some information, so here goes my input. There are several Runs and Exercises on the Surge tracker that allow you to track GPS. Other exercise options do not use GPS. For example, the Treadmill Run and Weights will not use GPS. Answering your question the environment you are in, can affect the signal strength of GPS. For example, if you are running in an urban environment with many tall buildings, it may take your Surge tracker several seconds to get a fix location so your course be accurate. The Surge give you the option to start the exercise while still is searching signal but I do not recommend this, since the map course will not be accurate if this is what you are looking for. So the best is wait until the tracker fix your location to start your exercise.

Now with Blaze is a different story. This is because the tracker does not have GPS built-in and will use  connected GPS feature that works with your phone to deliver real-time activity stats like distance and pace during outdoor workouts. After a workout, you can see the details in your exercise history on your dashboard as any other activity but you must carry your phone with you due to connected GPS requires a GPS-enabled mobile device.

You can learn more about this in the Fitbit Web site at https://www.fitbit.com/surge or https://www.fitbit.com/blaze

Hope this helps and see you around. Robot wink
