Hi @Tonyestes166 and welcome to the forums. I have bad news and good news. The bad news is that your Surge is an old device and it does not have the hardware needed to offer the changes you would like. Sorry.
But the good news is that Fitbit took requests like yours to heart and incorporated them into the newer devices. The Versa smart watches offer color displays and allow you to control brightness, screen time-out and more. (This is my personal favorite.) If you are looking for a smaller device, the new Charge 4 allows you to adjust brightness, vibration strength and more. If you go to the Fitbit store, you can do a side by side comparison while looking for the features that are most important to you.
