I got my surge replaced because the band was coming apart. I got the replacement connected to my account and it is tracking sleep, steps, floors fine. I went to the gym and tried to track my exercise and it said "Not Connected". Also, when I hit the buttons to restart, it either goes to the exercise screen or nothing happens. Is this replacement unit defective or did I miss something when configuring it?

Try a restart. Do it at least 3 times.

I have the surge and when I press the buttons for a restart, it either goes to the exercise screen or just sits there. I've sat for 30 seconds holding the buttons and nothing happens.

Turns out it is another defective unit. Getting another replacement.
